Incredible Oceanfront Stay on the Big Island!

We had an amazing time staying at this VRBO on the Big Island. The location couldn’t have been better—literally steps from the ocean, with stunning views and the sound of the waves creating the perfect backdrop for a relaxing vacation.The home was exactly as described, clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed for a great stay. What really stood out, though, was the host. They were incredibly helpful and responsive, checking in to make sure everything was going smoothly and offering local tips throughout our trip.Highly recommend this spot if you're looking for a peaceful, oceanfront getaway with a great host. We would absolutely stay here again!

Wonderful week

This condo was very clean, comfortable and had everything we needed for our week long stay. Alex is a very attentive owner who goes beyond the usual to make sure his guests feel welcome and appreciated. We had one small problem when we arrived but Alex made sure it was quickly remedied. Outstanding stay. Wonderful proprietor.

The comfortable and immaculate waterfront unit is recently and beautifully updated. Proprietor Alex --- eho is always available by phone or text -- has made certain it contains just about anything you might need for your stay, the beach, and snorkeling. The Kona Reef complex is meat, clean and has a wonderful oceanfront swimming pool and grassy frontage. Ideal location, great kitchen, cozy king bed with plenty of closet space. You can't askbfor better. We'll be back.

Awesome Condo! Alex makes sure you have everything you need. The ocean is about 10 feet away and you have a perfect view of the sunset every night. Restaurants and shops are just a couple of minute walk away. It is the perfect home base for your Big Island Adventures! We have stayed here multiple times. It’s my wife and I’s favorite!

Awesome!

This rental was amazing. It was clean, we'll maintained, has an awesome view, and is super close to downtown kona and tons of restaurants. It was also very well stocked, snorkel gear, beach chairs, kitchen supplies, virtually everthing we needed. Alex was extremely helpful and provided a wealth of information about activities, directions, restaurants. We look forward to returning in the future.

Everything you could ask for and more!

We have rented vacation rentals at the Kona Reef many times before, but this was the best experience we have encountered. The owner of the condo. Alex Douglas was very helpful in making our stay a pleasurable experience. Whenever we had a question we were able to contact him imediately for an answer. Location location location!

The condo is located right on the shoreline and the views are spectacular! If there is any doubt, all the snorkel and whale watching tours are right in front our the condo! We are located within 1/4 or less of restaurants and shops! It’s an easy walk for breakfast, lunch or dinner! We enjoyed exploring the island and doing various tours. Alex had some great recommendations such as Greenwell Coffee tour and The Coffee Shack! The Manta Ray swim was a highlight of our trip! Use Sea Paradise if you want to do it! Very professional crew and brand new 50’ catamaran. Alex and Michele are the best host and communicate a lot to make your visit a plus. We will be back!

Clean, comfortable, convenient ocean front condo

This ocean front condo was perfect! It was steps from the black rocks and ocean. The waves could be heard crashing all the way to the bedroom (great sound to fall asleep to!) and the ocean breeze was so constant that we didn’t even need to turn on the AC. Our favorite area was the lanai, where we had the perfect spot for sunsets. It is just a short walk to Ali’i Drive where there is an abundance of restaurants and shops. The hosts were super friendly, communicated with us from initial booking and offered recommendations for everything we wanted to see and do while on the big island. If we ever have the opportunity to visit again, I hope we can arrange to stay here! Mahalo

The Greatest Condo Of All

First of all words cannot describe the sound of the waves and the scent of the sea and the beauty of Kona. This condo is a haven with all of that and more including whale watching from the Lanai ( balcony) and glorious sunsets. Wait before you get outdoor supplies as there are matts, beach chairs, beach umbrellas and scuba gear. Everything in the condo was clean and in working order. The communication with Alex was as easy as communication with a good friend, always available with caring and excellent suggestions. Best vacation ever. Thank you Alex & Michele! Love Alex and Michele’s condo

We loved our stay here at Alex and Michele’s condo. It’s located overlooking the shore and provides perfect views of sunsets. It’s quiet, yet conveniently located near all the action in downtown Kona. The kitchen is well equipped, especially for BarBQing on the grills near the pool. We like to eat in most of the time, so we appreciated having all the tools to cook in the condo kitchen. We also appreciated having more than one luggage rack to unpack our suitcases. Their condo has three! Anything that you need for a trip to the beach is also provided. Most of all, we appreciated having Alex check in with us to make sure everything was ok and to give helpful suggestions about things to do. Can’t wait to get back to this great place again in the future!

Unbeatable 1 BR unit

We have stayed in this unit 4-5 times including a 1 month stay last year. The unit is exceptionally well equipped for you to move in and enjoy all that Kona Coast and Hawaii has to offer. Coolers, Beach chairs, snorkle gear to mention some of the adds. Alex is very helpful and checks in after you arrive to ensure all is in good working order and always had some new good ideas for restaurants, etc (we have been staying at the Kona Reef since 2001 total of about 16 visits). Alex also responds to feedback to try to constantly improve his property for renters. Very price competitive also for all the benefits you get.

WOW, I wish I could give 1000 stars!!!!!!

"Wow" is all we could say when we walked in this condo. This condo has everything you can think of, a well stocked kitchen for cooking, beach chairs, beach umbrella, beach towels, a cooler, and snorkel gear. The bed and pillows are very comfortable, with high quality sheets and an extra blanket if needed. The view is just amazing, the lanai has high quality, very comfortable patio furniture with views of the beautiful sunsets as well as great entertainment watching the surfers and boogie boarders ride the waves. The owner was very good at communicating, providing great restaurant recommendations, answering questions about the condo, and the island itself. The owners have an exceptional place here, it is very clean, had everything we needed and more. They take pride in this home and it shows, we could not have picked a better place!! A huge Mahalo for your hospitality!

Amazing Location in Paradise!

We stayed at the Duncans' condo for 8 days to celebrate our anniversary and the experience was amazing! It was our second time in Kona and this trip definitely topped the last one. We enjoyed the views from the lanai immensely, sunsets, surfers, rowers... Listening to the waves going to sleep at nights and waking up in the mornings was priceless! The condo was super clean, tastefully decorated, the bed was comfortable, the kitchen was well equipped and organized. It had everything we needed to feel right at home. The location was so convenient, we walked to shops and restaurants, even to Safeway. The communication with Alex was wonderful, he cared and made sure we had everything we needed and were comfortable. Alex and Michelle's anniversary gift made our celebration more special! Thank you so much, we hope to be back.

Another wonderful Kailua-Kona holiday has just come to its end, and it was with great regret and sadness that we started on our long trip back home to Germany. Our 15th stay at Kona Reef and our second stay in this condo. This time we took it a little bit slower. Asthe interior is so inviting and cosy, we spent more time inside the condo and out on the lanai. The spectacular panoramic view offered unendless opportunities to follow and enjoy the ocean activities; the various boats of all sizes, the surfers and the surf and always watchful for a view of a school of dolphins passing by. And later in the day a colorful sunset. The very tidy and tasteful interior of the condo blended perfectly with the ocean below. And Alex and Michelle, thanks for your kind assistance prior to our holiday and your concern while we were guests at your home. Delightful Kona Reef D12 Condo Rental

The Duncan’s Big Island vacation condo at Kona Reef was an excellent choice for our 10-day stay! We found it to be extremely clean, tidy, well-maintained, and tastefully decorated. It was very well stocked with high-quality items (including sheets, towels, kitchenware, beach goods, CD player, and more), with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. When Alex asked at the end of our trip (via a thoughtful call) if there was anything lacking in the condo, I could honestly only think of one thing that would have been welcomed: a beach umbrella (and maybe a box of Kleenex!). The condo does have an air-conditioner, but by using the overhead fans, the small bedroom fan, and having the screen doors/windows open, we never used it. We loved the sound of the ocean and the warm, tropical breezes. Everything was wonderful! We especially enjoyed the large, very relaxing, and private lanai, with its amazing oceanfront view! Although as we were out-and-about visiting all parts of the island much of the time, we probably could have been quite content to spend the majority of our time out there— simply beautiful! The pool area was also well-maintained and lovely, with friendly, considerate guests. As others have commented, it was really nice to be able to walk into town for dining. We would highly recommend this quiet and comfortable rental property!

What a wonderful place!

My husband and I stayed here a week in early August, and it couldn’t have been any better! Everything we needed was there, beach towels, chairs, umbrella, snorkel gear, binoculars, reef safe sunscreen, laundry soap, dishwasher soap, trash bags, etc. I strongly recommend going to the condo before the grocery store, so you’ll know what you need. Most nights we were able to leave the lanai screen doors open and a wonderful Breeze went through the condo. On the few nights it was too hot, the air conditioning was there to cool us off. Alex was a wonderful host, giving us suggestions as to what to do, where to go, etc; he was only a text away. The complex has a beautiful pool and an excellent area to grill (with 4 new gas grills) and eat, overlooking the pool area. Also it has beautiful well-kept grounds, a covered parking garage, and is very quiet. We felt safe the entire time, even walking at night to nearby restaurant/shopping areas. It was fun to see surfers from the nearby park, and so cool to see the sunset while dining on the lanai. We had breakfast with coffee overlooking the beautiful waves crashing on the lava rocks and since my husband likes to cook and grill, we ate dinner there more often than at restaurants. We bought fresh mahi and ono (wahoo) at Costco, and it was wonderful. My husband (the cook who brings a knife sharpener) adds that the kitchen was the most complete and well-appointed of any rental we’ve ever used! We can’t wait to come back!

Nice and very convenient place to stay

This is an ideal place to stay. The property, Kona Reef Resort condominium, is perfectly located as it is close to many shopping centers on one side but also evenly positioned to visit beaches to the north or to the south from it. The view from the room is gorgeous as you are looking at waves right in front of your eyes. Condo is very clean and convenient. Alex, the property owner, is very thorough in explaining everything that is very helpful especially for people who come there for the first time. The entire process of renting was very smooth and easy. Special thanks to Alex for directly communicating with us and setting up everything needed for arrival way in advance and not within 3 days before the rental period. We will return to the same place next year - this is our decision that says all one need to know.

30th anniversary vacation

The condo we rented in Kona was absolutely beautiful. The location was stunning! Communication with Alex went above and beyond. His hospitality was phenomenal. He recommended many things to do in the local area, which was very helpful. His condo is stocked with everything you would need for a nice day. The resort itself is in a nice location with easy walking to shops, restaurants, and everything you would need. I highly recommend this kind of accommodation in Hawaii! It was fantastic.

Wonderful condo!

We love the Kona Reef and this is by far the best of the three condo's we've stayed in there. We have already booked our next reservation. Some of the little things we appreciated include the comfortable lounge chair on the lanai, the Brita filter in the fridg so we didn't have to buy bottled water, and the living room lighting being good enough for reading! Alex stayed in close touch with us to make sure that all our needs were met.
