Located in the Kaloli Point sun belt on the East side of the Big Island of Hawai, House of Paddles is within earshot of the Pacific Ocean’s crashing waves. This private tropical oasis is a two-minute walk from the spectacular Puna coastline to watch sea turtles and whales (when in season)!

Please Note: This is a quiet residential neighborhood and local ordinances prohibit gatherings at licensed short term rental properties. Quiet hours are 9pm to 8am daily. Occupancy is set to 7 guests only. Please Respect Your Neighbors!

Stunning custom-built in 2005, House of Paddles features an open floor plan with vaulted ceilings. Throughout the home are exotic local hardwoods and Mexican tile. The fully equipped kitchen features custom Native Koa hardwood and Mango cabinets and a six burner gas stove with griddle. French doors open the Grand Room to a private tropical resort-style pool area with a propane grill. Observe beautiful sunrises and magical stargazing from the pool area.

There are three bedrooms and one additional sleeping area. The private Orchid Suite is separate from the main house and boasts an ensuite bathroom with private lava rock outdoor shower. Two more bedrooms are in the main part of the house. Bedroom 2 shares a full bathroom across the hall and Bedroom 3 has an ensuite bathroom. The final sleeping area is a comfortable queen size bed in our large laundry room.

House of Paddles is conveniently located 25 minutes from Hilo International Airport. Only 30 minutes to many must see attractions including Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, snorkeling beaches in Hilo, the newly renovated Poho’iki Beach Park in Kalapana and many natural wonders. Just 15 minutes to quaint Pahoa Town for fine dining, art boutiques and groceries. Only 8 minutes to Maku’u Farmer’s Market on Sundays.

Overall we enjoyed our week long stay here but the lack of AC was a major issue for us. Even with the windows open and fans running the house was very hot at night and we had trouble sleeping. The pool was small but our kids enjoyed it despite its chilly unheated temp. We had an issue with the internet and response time on resolution was a bit slow when we initially contacted but it did finally get resolved on the 2nd day of our stay. The separate guest house was a nice feature for our parents to stay in and have their own space but they commented that the open shower really heated up the bedroom even with the door to the bathroom closed. We enjoyed the access to the washer and dryer and the kitchen was nice. The house is a bit off the beaten path and it’s about 30 mins to anything and 45 minutes to volcanos national park.

Loved our stay at this property! Perfectly located in a quiet neighborhood, 20 minutes from downtown Hilo & one block from the breathtaking ocean front! The property was super spacious & comfortable, allowing a lot of privacy for each room, while still feeling cozy! We adored the outside lava rock shower! Great way to appreciate Hilo

Stopped here to hit Volcano National Park, which is 30 minutes away. We were a short walk to the cliffs where you cannot swim but are amazed by the power of the ocean and the natural beauty of the island. I have been to Hilo before but never appreciated this aspect. The cliffs are dangerous with young kids so keep your eye out for crashing waves. The home was a perfect place for us to take some quite time after being in hotels and play card games and cool off in the pool . Beds were very comfortable. If you are an AC person or not comfortable with mother nature coming into your living quarters this is not the location for you. We loved it and appreciated the attention to detail that the owners put into the home.

Absolutely Beautiful, But.....

5 stars for Beautiful. No stars for amenities unless you consider 4 adult rain coats amenities. The beds in 3 of the rooms are great, not so in the laundry room. Property manager is stingy with paper products and trash bags, but they are quick to respond to fix what should have been working when you arrived. Luckily Walmart is a half hour away. The kids loved the 4 ft deep pool and that is mainly why we rented it. Door lockbox is difficult to open.

We love this house! We stayed here 13 years ago and found it to be almost exactly the same!

Clean, well stocked with beach towels and cooking utensils. The pool is a blast and the layout of the home is perfect for a family with school age or older kids. The host was great and responded promptly when we had a question. Would stay here again!

Beautiful Hale! Everything you want or need!

Beautiful, landscaped property with 2 master suites and a pool kept two families feeling relaxed and at home. Located in the tropical Puna section of the Hawaii, it was a nice place to retire each night when we finished a days exploration of the island. We will definitely be back to this enchanting island and will stay in this beautiful hale when we return.

Wonderful stay in paradise

We visited House of Paddles with a group of friends and kids. The house and space was beautiful. Plenty of room for everyone. Property was as listed. The only downside we experienced was just with the cleanliness of the pool. I think it would help to have the pump running for more than four hours a day, especially with a group of people using the pool and all the plant matter around. The lack of AC wasn’t an issue for us, but if you’re sensitive to heat know that this place is warm! You can get a nice breeze though at night, but we were blessed with calm warm days. And if you get warm, just take a dip in the pool. Thank you for a beautiful vacation. Will definitely return!

The house is beautiful but not dusted very well. The dish washer leaked all over the kitchen. The smoke detectors weren’t in the living room or off-suite. The pool was awesome for the grandkids to use everyday.the permits on the door for renting are expired. The headboard in the first bedroom has the metal coming off and is very sharp (someone tried taping it but it is not a great fix). Location is great and would use the house again!

Beautiful home!

Wonderful home!

We visited the Big Island for our son’s Senior graduation trip! This house was perfect for our family! The pool was a nice addition, especially on the days we wanted to just relax! My husband and I stayed in the separate suite with the lava shower and it was perfect! I would highly recommend this property!

Great place for a family to stay. This is in a quite neighborhood, peaceful. House is as advertised. There is a house next door, quite close, but there was no noise or issue for us with that. Not an issue. Really enjoyed sitting by the pool enjoying the weather.

Beautiful home, unsightly neighbors, not private

Beautiful home and pool with an easy walk to the cliffs. However, the recently build property next door looms directly over the pool area, and the living room if the doors are open. The neighbors tend to spend a lot of time on their lanai smoking cigarettes. All the plants and trees on their property had been clear cut and not yet replanted. It’s an unsightly mess, and not private. It might be a great place to return to in 5 or 10 years when foliage has returned and a sense of privacy is restored. Until then, look someplace else.

Lovely unique property

This is a lovely property about a 30 minute drive from Hilo. The two main bedrooms and great room open onto the lanai and pool. The pool is a big plus. The house was spotless and equipped with everything you need. As noted in earlier reviews, there is a new house being built next door which overlooks the pool area, and the owners are working on additional privacy.
