On the first night of a week-long family ski vacation, I was injured by the Murphy bed in this unit. While pulling the bed down from its stowed position for the first time, the metal foot bar swung down uncontrolled and struck my big toe, resulting in a likely fracture diagnosed at urgent care the following morning. The discharge report included a 30-day restriction from skiing.Upon inspection, the foot bar has no latch, spring, or any retention mechanism to prevent it from swinging freely. The foot bar is also not visible to the user until the bed already has significant downward momentum. While the Murphy bed is shown in the listing, there were no operating instructions posted on or near the bed, nor in any check-in materials, advising guests of the correct sequence for safely lowering it.I reported the incident to both the property manager (PMI) and the owner. The property manager sent a video claiming the bed was functioning properly, but their video showed the bed demonstrated with the foot bar already in the down position, which is not how a guest would encounter it on first use. The property manager also attempted to deflect responsibility to Vrbo rather than address the matter directly.The Murphy bed in this unit (a SICO Eurobed) presents a safety hazard to any guest using it for the first time without prior knowledge of its operation. Future guests should exercise extreme caution.
