Our stay at Kauhale Makai was good. The unit itself was nicely furnished with everything we needed for a pleasant stay. Our lanai had a great view of the ocean, the pali, and the island of Lanai. We were able to spot whales with the provided binoculars. There were several issues with the property due the Kona Low storms. First there was no elevator service because of the flooding. This was only an issue because we were on the 5th floor and don't have great knees. Next the pool was closed for the duration of our stay. This was disappointing as we were unable to swim or play in the ocean due to the poor sea conditions. Lastly we had no communication with staff. The office was closed for the duration of our stay. We were unable to officially check in and received no communication regarding property status or local conditions. We understand that the conditions caused by the weather took things out of your hands, but a little communication would have gone a long way. Overall we had a good visit and would stay at Kauhale Makai again.

We were stranded in Maui due to severe flooding, and unfortunately the agency representatives were unreachable despite multiple attempts to contact them. We were without power or road access for two days and had no access to proper food—surviving on only bread and water for approximately 36 hours. Despite the circumstances, the booking was not even extended. We were forced to vacate the apartment while floodwater was present and spent nearly 36 hours at the airport, as no other hotels were available. To reach the airport, we had to walk nearly a mile carrying our luggage, as the area was flooded with approximately two feet of water. Overall, this was an extremely distressing experience and a clear failure of customer support. The lack of assistance during an emergency was unacceptable and left a very negative impression of our time in Maui.

Our unit was dated and worn. To say this was beach front was misleading. It was beach view, over the parking lot. No desire to use the lanai overlooking the parking lot. Most dining in this area is in strip malls with little atmosphere. Most were order at the counter with minimal service.

We were pleasantly surprised with the amount of room and really loved having 2 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms for a family of 4. We were able to shop at the local grocery stores and make some meals in our room. The cupboards were well-stocked except for a silicone spatula. :) The ice-maker in the freezer was sure nice to have! There were also large and small coolers, cleaning supplies, and several beach chairs and toys that were very nice to have! There was always a parking spot, and they were great about letting us arrive in the evening and then registering in the morning to get our parking pass to display in our windshield. There were 2 outdoor showers to wash off sand near the pool area, and it was nice to have codes for our condo and for the pool so we never had to keep track of keys. The beach isn’t necessarily great for swimming, but the view is to die for! We spent a lot of time on our lanai just enjoying the view, especially the sunset. It was also useful for drying towels and swimwear. There were 2 elevators that both worked perfectly, in the property landscaping was beautiful! The location was nice for finding restaurants, food truck parks, and beaches. We really liked the somewhat central location on the island to go any direction. Our main complaint was the sliding screen door in and out of the lanai. It was quite difficult to slide, and some of the screen was coming apart just a bit. We liked being on the fifth floor. Everything was well-soundproofed.

Such a great view

The location of condo on 5th floor facing the ocean was so very peaceful and quiet. I lived waking to palm trees swaying in the breeze. Kitchen was well supplied and we had all meals in our condo. Loved have 2 full baths and living room was so comfortable as was the patio.

I really enjoyed the views of this property. The staff was easy to work with and very communicative on questions ahead and even while I was there. The unit had EVERYTHING you could possibly need in the kitchen, as well as sheets, towels, and beach amenities. I was very impressed. While the views were amazing, the unit is need of more updates. The kitchen cabinets are very worn, closet and slider doors do not shut easily and could use oil or repair, other than that the unit was very comfortable and was in a great location, far away from Kihei travel backups but close enough to get to everything around the island. Laundry was available on the even floors and did not work great but sufficed. Front office there was very helpful as well. Parking is a bit tight but we always found a spot. Quiet building, hardly ever saw others, pool was not crowded but hot tub filled up at night. Being able to walk to the beach was amazing and it always felt like our own private oasis.

The views from the condo were amazing. The people were friendly and helpful. It was quiet. It is an older property and could use a little tlc for the doors and windows that got stuck.
