  • One of the northernmost towns along the coast in North Carolina, Duck is an idyllic town on the shores of the Currituck Sound. This shot was taken from the town's boardwalk while looking West over the sounds. It is advisable to visit the location in Winter as that is off season - so you can spend more time taking in the beauty of the North Carolina coastline and also sunsets are usually much more picturesque around the time owing to the cooler temperatures and lower amount of atmospheric haze. Plenty of things around Duck to see. Further north, there is the Currituck Lighthouse where you can climb the steps to the top of the lighthouse. North of Corolla, there is an area where you can drive along the coast on the sand - 4X4s a must. Here you can spot some Spanish Mustangs, horses out in the wild. If you're lucky, you can spot them running along the beach in the surf. I'd recommend taking a tour through the Corolla Wild Horse Fund - the money from the tours is used to help the wild horses in every which way possible and the staff are knowledgeable and friendly. The pictures listed for the property were an accurate description of what to expect. The house is welcoming, clean, and cozy. If you are looking for a place were you can walk out to the beach from your backdoor, this is the place. We woke up each morning to watch the sunrise and saw spectacular views. The house is within walking distance (less than 1 mile) to Duck where there were many food and shopping options. Bud and Janice were wonderful hosts. Their communication was swift and extremely helpful. We will definitely be back!

Our week at Sugar Shack was perfect! The location is amazing. We walked into Duck for donuts or the bakery every morning, the beach is steps from the door and it is close to all of the sights! The house had everything we needed and more! We will be returning next summer:)

The home is quiet and relaxing ! The view is everything !! super comfortable bed and couch .very easy kitchen she has everything labeled makes it so easy to know your way around . I will say the pool is down the road and wasn’t open during our stay we were highly upset about that. She is very easy to talk to and is very knowledgeable about the area .

The Sugar Shack was everything we could have wanted. It is on the beach with a fantastic view to watch the sunrise while drinking your morning coffee. It is an easy walk to downtown Duck. This house has many extra amenities and the owners are easily available to help or answer any questions. They made check in so easy. This was a terrific get away. Can’t wait to return.

Already booking again

The location was ideal for us. Close enough to walk to places in Duck (1 mile-ish). Down far enough so that Kill Devil Hills / Kitty Hawk weren't that far. And it's on the beach. The amenities and details provided exceeded our expectations. The hosts are quickly responsive to questions and communicated with us along the way. As my title said, we are already looking to book this location again. And I may even book it on my own, sans spouse. I loved it that much.

My husband and I had an amazing time during our stay at Sugar Shack! I appreciate Joyce checking in to see if we needed anything and gave restaurant recommendations. The house was spotless and loved the labels making finding items in the kitchen a breeze! Appreciated all the basic essentials provided such as coffee pods, sugar packets, spices, shampoo, makeup remover, tissue, toilet paper and hand soap! The townhouse was comfortable and cozy, a contrast of your typical realtor managed homes! The view and sound of the ocean was spectacular! It was easy getting to the beach with the wooden board walk so close to the townhouse! Loved the town of Duck! Many new restaurants and shops since our last visit 20+ years ago! The wide lighted walking/bike paths were great! I highly recommend Sugar Shack if you’re looking for a couples retreat or for a family beach trip!

Sugar Shack is the Best!

We have stayed in Georgetown Sands for over 20 years but not at Sugar Shack until this year. It was perfect!!! The house is equipped with everything you could want or need. It was super clean and comfortable and just steps from the beach!!! Georgetown Sands has the best location - it’s walking distance to Duck and 20 minutes to anywhere else! We have already booked a week for next summer!! I highly recommend it!!!

Another wonderful week

This was our second stay at the Sugar Shack and it did not disappoint. Absolutely perfect spot for our family of four and conveniently right by the beach. Tons of amenities and extras that make our stay so comfortable. Can’t beat it! I’m just sad we didn’t book in time for next year!
