Kyushu and Okinawa Holidays

Great hotel and staff were great but the fact you had to pay for literally everything in the room was not well communicated and so charging for teabags and coffee was a bit of a shock.

My stay at Sofitel New York was excellent overall. The hotel was very clean, well-maintained, and the staff was friendly and helpful throughout my stay. Guest services, in particular, were efficient, responsive, and made everything feel seamless from check-in through most of the trip. Unfortunately, my experience took a disappointing turn on the day of checkout. The hotel attempted to authorize and charge my credit card $500, claiming that my bachelorette party was playing loud music until 4 AM, disturbing other guests, and that security had come to our room after a warning call from the front desk. This was completely inaccurate. My group and I were not even in the room from approximately 12:30 AM to 4:00 AM. When we returned, we were winding down for bed—there was no music playing, and we were simply talking at a normal level. We never received any call to the room, nor did security come to our door at any point. It was extremely disheartening to have such a reputable hotel attempt to charge a significant fee based on claims that did not occur—especially without contacting us first to discuss any alleged issue. Experiences like this raise serious concerns, particularly as I’ve since seen similar reports online involving hotels in New York City. While the property and most of the staff were wonderful, this situation left a lasting negative impression and should be addressed with greater transparency and fairness.

It didn’t have an oven for baking anything. It had everything else we needed like silverware, plates, storage containers, dish soap, sponge, etc. Most of the staff were nice, but the one man was definitely sick and the one lady wasn't the kindest/most personable person - seemed like she was annoyed either at us for some reason or just in general and I'm not sure why. She did at least offer to store our luggage for us without us asking. The gym is exceptionally small with no cleaning wipes stocked, but it served its purpose. The one elevator slowed down a lot as we approached our floor. We thought we were going to be stuck in it. The underpad and bottom of the lounge chair in the room was all stained up really bad. The kitchen chair also had food splattered on the back of it. There was a bottle cap and trash under the bed. The bed itself was okay in comfort. The room didn't smell of any harsh chemicals, but the hall did a bit. The bathroom curtain could have been cleaner - there was a little bit of mold here and there - I have mold toxicity illness, so I'm not sure if that is why I was so out of it during this trip or not. I liked the Dove hand wash, and hair care items. They did offer free water - I'm not sure if it was filtered or not, but it tasted fine. Free coffee, as well, that was watery the one night.

By far the best stay at this hidden gem. The staff were beyond accommodating and made me feel safe and welcome while I was there. I will be staying here ever time I come back to NYC.

Pros: Dated but clean. Spacious room and bathroom. Great location and decent price. Good bagels and muffins. Nice staff, especially Layna in housekeeping. Con’s: A few tweaks would help, like some hooks on the walls near the door to hang jackets/bags, full length mirror, small corner bathroom shelf at chest level in the shower and some storage shelves in the wasted space under bathroom sink. The coffee was way too strong and they have no half and half, so you must microwave a lot of milk to even change the color of your coffee without cooling the coffee. A toaster for the bagels would be welcome. Wouldn’t hesitate to stay again and those little tweaks would really elevate your stay.
