The property is nice and big, but the interior needs maintenance and upgrade, i.e. the floor is dirty, the refrigerator on the freezer side leaks water, the bed sets are very old. There are tons of flies around the house. The toilet seats are old and dirty. The owners do their own cleaning instead of hiring a professional house cleaner. They are cheap in providing insufficient house cleaning supplies i.e. only one extra trash bag, one extra roll of toilet paper and paper towel, the pots and pans are unusable, old with many scratches and rusty.
According to vrbo booking confirmation, the check in time is 1pm, but the owner told us @ 2pm and we were there on time, but the house is not ready yet so we had to wait for 20 minutes.
The house has 3 bedrooms and a game room/loft which we think has enough spaces for 3 families of 4 people. However, the property listing is very tricky, the maximum occupancy is for 8 people, but the standard nightly rate is only for 6 people so any additional person up to 8 is an additional charge which is a very misleading. Initially, we booked the house for 2 families of 6 people but another family wanted to join at the last minute so we exceeded the maximum occupancy by 4 people and agreed for the additional people regardless of ages per verbal request from John (which we think is a bit excessive as we have kids and they don’t use much resources). However, he charged us more than the agreed amount and is almost the cost of renting another house. Upon checking the property listing info on vrbo after we received the bill, there wasn’t any disclosure regarding additional fees if exceeded the maximum occupancy so we disputed the charge with him. While waiting for a response from the owner, he revised his property listing to include the extra charge for additional people. This is deceitful business.
We feel annoyed and dislike the fact that John keeps coming to the property everyday, sometimes twice a day to collect trash, water the grass and walk around the house. We felt as if he monitored us daily and didn’t have any privacy during our stay. We did not get to enjoy the house to ourselves. John also asked us to vacuum the house which we think is a ridiculous request since we paid for the cleaning fee.
