We absolutely loved our stay at House Cara Cara. We were a group of seven adults and the house felt very spacious. There are many sitting areas outside, so we were able to have space when we needed it. The house, grounds, and pool were kept exceptionally clean. Paty and Saul, the caretakers, made our stay even better. They were very kind and helpful. We hired Paty to cook for us which made the trip much more relaxing. Saul had someone climb the trees to get us fresh coconuts, and he came to get us when he found a turtle laying eggs on the beach. On our final night, their whole family made us a bonfire with fireworks to say goodbye.
The beach is beautiful with soft sand and very few people around. We loved listening to the waves crash on the shore. The waves are quite rough though, so it isn't a great place to swim, but we just used the pool. Also, the sunsets on the beach were very stunning, but make sure you bring and use bug dope as we got many sand flea bites on our feet when on the beach. They are the worst at sunrise and sunset as well as in the evening in general.
Just four houses down (to the left on the beach) is a turtle sanctuary. We got to release baby turtles twice during our ten day stay for a small donation. This was definitely a highlight of our trip!
You will need a vehicle or to hire a driver as the house is very rural. There are a couple of small stores within walking distance, but they only carry pop and snacks. Rebecca suggested hiring Ernesto as a driver. He has a 14 passenger van, he picked us up from the airport, and he is familiar with the house's location. On the way to the house, he told us about a Papusa (local food) Festival happening the next day, so we hired him to take us. We trusted him fully, and he took us around to areas we never would have seen on our own. We highly recommend him! He doesn't speak any English, but we were able to communicate via Google Translate on his cell phone.
Rebecca was very easy to communicate with. She answered all of our questions promptly and thoroughly. She also messaged us several times during our stay to ensure things were going well and to see if we needed anything. Thank you Rebecca! We hope to return one day!
