“What a surprise we found at the Athenaeum, a grand hotel from the 19th century, on beautiful Lake Chatauqua. On arrival, we found ourselves entering a gated community spread along the lake shore, with wonderful 19th and 20th century summer homes, within walking distance of the hotel. The entry to the hotel opens into a large traditional open lobby where the front desk sits opposite a wide staircase to the second and third floors, alongside a comfortable bar area where one can order food and……

“When I arrived at the Butler House, the owner (MK) informed me that it was actually closed for renovations. Expedia had been repeatedly informed of this but continued, nonetheless, to book reservations for guests! MK was very apologetic and offered me accommodation in the camper beside the house. “We enjoyed a wonderful time and the very comfortable accommodations. Thank you for sharing your home - super clean, and everything was just as described. We stayed 4 nights over the Thanksgiving holiday with our son, daughter in-law, and 2 grandsons and it worked out great. Although weather brought a winter storm and about 4 inches of snow, we still had a nice relaxing time and would love to return in the summertime with our boat.
