The house itself was very nice. The views were even better than expected; the online pics don’t do it justice. There were some irritating flaws in the overall experience, however. The owner, Vacasa, is a company that apparently is in the business of short term rentals, so you’d think they would have better processes.
First, they don’t comply with written VRBO policies as to what to expect, nor did they follow their own. I expected, as written here in VRBO, that I would receive an email requesting the second / final payment. I didn’t. Instead Vacasa simply chatted the credit card I used to make the first payment - without telling me. When I contacted them to ask about how to make the second payment, their rep didn’t seem to understand what I was talking about. It was only during this lengthy exchange that I checked my credit card records online. When I questioned how this was done, they were rude and condescending, actually saying “we’re sorry you THINK this would happen a different way,” after which I sent them the written VRBO statement explaining how it SHOULD have worked. What if I had wanted to pay with a different card or had the friend who went with me pay the other half?? I was given no choice as I expected nor was I sent any kind of receipt. Their apology was weak and insincere. Very bad start. Also, in spite of the many emails I received in duplicate from them, one promising to send me the entry code the morning of the reservation, they never sent it. Another call to VRBO as we approached the property, and more condescension as they clearly presumed I’d overlooked it. I didn’t. They finally sent it.
In spite of multiple complaints in prior reviews over nearly a year that the ice maker was broken, it not only was still broken, there were no ice cube trays. The nearest ice was a 30 minute round trip drive. Really…!? How much do ice cube trays cost? We had to use paper cups WE brought to make ice. The property has multiple wonderful TVs and many remotes... and ONE with batteries that weren’t dead. Again, batteries would have been a 39 minute round trip, assuming the nearest gas station market even had them. Two of the five lamps in the house didn’t work, including the only lamp in the upper bedroom. As other reviews state, the driveway is truly bad. Unless you’re driving a 4-wheel-drive vehicle, get a running start before you attempt it. It’s steep, bumpy, and has a tight turn. Think “rough carnival ride”.
