It's is a Romanticist castle that stands on the top of a hill in the Sintra Mountains. And undoubtedly one of the most iconic places in Portugal. And a dream come true to visit it! It is a national monument and constitutes one of the major expressions of 19th-century Romanticism in the world. The palace is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the Seven Wonders of Portugal. It is also used for state occasions by the President of the Portuguese Republic and other government officials. Thanks to Wikipedia for help ;).

Cute boutique hotel. They were working on restoring hot water when I arrived, at 9pm there was loud drilling just outside my villa. After that, staff was nowhere to be found for the next two days - although their mobile no. is left in the room. Breakfast room was dead in the morning. Left the keys inside the room when I left, since there was noone to leave it with.

Stay was great, we were slightly delayed receiving the room but we were provided keys and our luggage was stored and put into the room for when we came back. Checkout was early so we were able to leave the keys on the counter and leave through the side door which locked behind us. Free parking was available in the lot across the street.

When we arrive, the door of the second bathroom was broken and could not close. Managers tried to move us to 1BR1BA apartment which was too small for 3 of us. We stayed in the original room and used one bathroom without a door. We tried to contact managers to ask for discount for this problem but had no response.

Pros: Well designed, comfy rooms; rather than a kitchenette, a nearly complete kitchen; great house keeper; convenient location; easy parking. Cons: Lousy back office. Before I even arrived, I received a weird request from the Storytellers through Hotels.com to pay an additional 176 euros. I was fully paid and ignored it, nothing more was said of it, but in view of what came later it deserves mention. At the end of the stay, the management hit me up for an extra 20 euros for using the sofa bed. Mind you, I booked for myself and my son, so obviously we would use the extra bed. I had to ask for bedding on arrival and nothing was said until the end. So that was both surprise/hidden billing as well as nickel and diming, because I've never been charged for using a sofa bed before. Not anywhere. Although they honored my VIP-Platinum status for early check in, I was also supposed to get a bottle of wine because of VIP and that wasn't there. The kindest way to describe it is the back office/management is confused; the unkind way you can probably guess, but I will leave that unsaid.

Room was clean and decorated beautifully. The only issue we had was the electricity would randomly shut off- happened a couple times in a 12 hour stay. Seems to be a common occurrence at this property.

Staff went beyond their duties. It was raining hard when we arrived and the cleaning/night shift person not only helped us get our luggage into the room, got us an umbrella and helped us settle in.

Walkable to restaurants/cafes, and the Moorish and Pena castles. Was very relaxing. Staff were helpful with their recommendations. Lisbon only 20 minutes away and after spending day in Lisbon we were very glad we stayed in Sintra instead. Would stay again.

We had a tremendous stay at the Storytellers Villas. We cannot recommend this location highly enough. We stayed in the two bedroom room, and it was the perfect amount of space; our nine year old was thrilled to have her own room and bathroom. We had the pleasure of being served by Bowani who is not only the housekeeper, but also the receptionist, and the server at breakfast. Obrigada, Bowani! You are a gem. Breakfast was a great selection of breads, croissants, ham, cheese, yogurt and hot beverages. All you need! We will definitely be back.

The facility is a group of apartments located around a central garden. So relaxing! The staff is precious. The office manager is a wonderful person who cares for each guest as if they were family. I would repeat the stay!

We loved this hotel. The staff was kind and helpful, especially Bonnie who kept our room spotless…anything we needed they provided. It’s not a modern property but we preferred the roominess of having 2 bedrooms and close to many restaurants. There is a great little coffee shop next door with delicious pastries we went to every day!

False advertising!

The housekeeper was the only redeeming quality of this hotel. When I booked, I only wanted to look at hotels with air-conditioning. This hotel said it had air conditioning, but when I checked in, I had a fan. I found out only one unit actually has air conditioning and the rest don’t. Also, the armoire in the bedroom smelled like mildew as did the bathroom. Too many red flags with this place.
