It’s a very nice cave hotel that is very conveniently located to explore the old Matera on foot. It is safe and quiet at night. There is also a very good restaurant right outside the door Dominica was absolutely wonderful. She came to meet me all the way at the airport, even though my flight was delayed and I didn’t arrive until the evening. She also gave me a detailed information on what to see in the town, the most important landmarks, where to go for nice views, where to go out to eat, etc. She essentially provided me with the whole itinerary for my 3 day stay on Matera, which was incredibly helpful. Throughout my stay, Domenica was very helpful and a pleasure to communicate with. I would definitely recommend this unique hotel.

Originalité et lieu très pittoresque : l’hôtel est aménagé dans une grotte en plein cœur de la ville ancienne de Matera. Il est joliment décoré et d’une propreté exemplaire. L’accueil de Domenica est tout simplement extraordinaire. Celle-ci a parfaitement organisé notre séjour et trouvé une visite guidée spécialement pour nous au coucher de soleil ainsi qu’une visite le lendemain en tuk-tuk. Elle nous a recommandé un excellent restaurant à quelques pas de son établissement. Grâce à elle, notre séjour à Matera a été exceptionnel.

Excelente hotel e atendimento

O hotel fica dentro de Sassi é bem localizado. A experiência de dormir dentro de uma “caverna” é muito interessante. Domenica trabalha na recepção e é muito simpática, atenciosa e me deu inúmeras dicas maravilhosas de onde comer, turismo e bares. O quarto é grande, cama confortável. O banheiro é bem equipado e muito espaçoso. O café da manhã possui duas opções de lanche e o mesmo é deixado para você na recepção às 8:30h, para pega-lo quando você acordar, o que achei maravilhoso já que estamos de férias. Frigobar inclui água, suco e tem uma máquina de expresso.

It is very unique because is a real cave but with all the modern facilities. The host are great Domenica and Walter are extremely helpful and nice. Next to hotel there is an excellent restaurant with the typical food for lunch and dinner and very nice people also “da Nico”. We highly recommend and we will stay again in the future.

Amazing find in Matera

I stayed on short notice at Casale di Maria and I couldn't have been happier with my choice. The room was very charming and unique - in one of the historic sassi (cave hewn into the rocks) but with all the modern amenities you could wish for. I had parked a long way away but Walter, the owner, gave me a ride to my car and guided me to a parking spot near the house where I could park without getting a ticket till the next morning. Domenica, who manages the property day-to-day, stayed in online contact to make sure there were no language difficulties. She also was very helpful with tips and restaurant recommendations. The next morning I could get breakfast in a little cafe across the road. All in all a perfect stay in the heart of the historic sassi district.

Ci siamo trovati benissimo. La location é nel cuore dei sassi di Matera; la stanza é bella, spaziosa, nuova e pulita. Il servizio é accogliente e caloroso. Domenica é molto premurosa, ci ha « guidati » nell’organizzazione del nostro soggiorno, dal parcheggio, a itinerari da fare in autonomia a piedi, a visite guidate. Grazie! Lo raccomando e ci tornerei! Se posso dare un unico spunto di miglioramento, a mio avviso sarebbe da rivedere la colazione, che é affidata a un bar vicino all’alloggio. Nel nostro caso la colazione era limitata a un caffè o cappuccino e cornetto o focaccia, all’aperto (con la pioggia, sotto l’ombrellone) o al chiuso ma con tutte le porte aperte. Inoltre non viene fatto servizio al tavolo… nei vari bar e ristoranti che abbiamo provato a Matera e in Basilicata di certo non mancano accoglienza, servizio e cibo in abbondanza quindi siamo stati un po’ delusi. É l’unica cosa che si potrebbe migliorare, per il resto tutto al top Grazie e a presto

Dormire in pieno comfort nei magici Sassi a Matera

Il Casale si trova all'interno del Sasso Barisano, quindi nel cuore di Matera. La struttura è di ottimo livello, camera (scavata nella roccia) ampia e confortevole, bagno ampio moderno e dotato di un'ottima doccia. La colazione (italiana) viene servita in un bar a pochi passi di distanza ed è di buona qualità. In zona non ci sono parcheggi, ma il gestore ci ha gentilmente prelevati e portati alla struttura. Sicuramente consigliato per assaporare la magia dei Sassi di Matera.
