Our drive ascending the back roads to reach this charming farmhouse was a fun adventure with some amazing views. As we approached the farmhouse, we looked at each other and said, "This is awesome!". And then upon entering and stepping into the perfectly preserved retro kitchen, "I love this place!". And the rest of the house was as perfect as that first step and impression. It was like being back at Grandma's (seriously, my grandmother had the exact same kitchen table and chairs!). Cozy, warm, spacious and comfortable. It's a real farm home. We knew we'd made the right decision to stay here.
We particularly enjoyed spending time on the nicely decorated, large front porch. We watched the cows on the hillside across the street, stared at the stars and moon at night, listened to whatever critters were nearby and the rushing stream we couldn't see. Down-the-road neighbors waved as they passed. Very peaceful and relaxing at any time of day or night.
Inside the house, there's lots of natural daylight and fresh breezes provided by the many windows. There are colorful artsy touches throughout the home. The various living spaces are warm and cozy, with lots of space for spreading out if you have a larger group. Internet worked great. The TV room was nicer than the pics. The bathrooms are updated and really nice (I particularly loved the first floor bathroom). The kitchen is large, well-equipped and attractive -- love the countertops and the huge picture window overlooking the property. The tap water is wonderful for drinking, best I've had in a long time. Bedrooms are comfortable. Every room is spotlessly clean, I don't know how they do it!
We enjoyed spending a Saturday afternoon at the pedestrian-friendly downtown Oneonta with live music and other vendors set up to welcome the students back to college. The pizza at Tino's was pretty exceptional NYC style (like Joe's in west village) -- make sure you eat it right out of the oven on site. The Green Toad bookstore was also great and attached to a lively cafe.
The nearby town of Delhi has the closest grocery store (Price Chopper) to the farm house and it had everything we needed.
Overall, this place is a hidden gem and we would definitely love to stay again! Thank you, Grace (and Denise)!
P.S. Our AT&T cellular had 1 bar, sometimes none depending on the room, so be prepared and use WiFi calling if necessary. There is also a landline at the house.
