We had the most relaxing time at the property. It was right on the lake, so we enjoyed being able to go at our leisure. A paddle board and a kayak were available for our use, so we enjoyed paddling around, curling up by the fire pit, and relaxing in the hot tub. Very quiet, relaxing atmosphere. We definitely hope to return!

Had an amazing time at this property. Probably the best pool table in a rental I've ever seen. There are a lot of steps to get from the house to the dock but I think that's generally going to be the same with almost all of the properties in the area.

5 star!First time visit to Smith Mountain Lake and plan to return!House was clean and adequate space for family of 12. Kiddo's enjoyed bunk bedroom and game room. Adults especially like sitting on covered porch facing the lake. Kitchen well equipped and owner very responsive, even delivered a blender on our request! Quiet cove perfect for swimming and for docking our pontoon boat. Although there were many steep steps to lake and steep driveway down to house, we still enjoyed the house and surrounding area. Would consider returning again next year!

Love their properties

Can’t ask for a better stay. We have stayed at two of GateWays properties within a month on purpose. They’re built by someone that understand lake life. Relaxed and luxury for a vacation. Special owners to understand the dynamics of a quiet cove.

Perfect family get away

We enjoyed our time here. Plenty of space, loads of dishes and cookware which is not always the case at many places. We enjoyed the pool table and hot tub along with spending a majority of our time on the covered porch and the dock. The driveway is steep and there are 96 steeps to the dock. So we got plenty of exercise.

Family Vacation

Stayed for a week for a family vacation. Had a great time and the accommodations were great. Walk to lake was a little difficult but everyone managed and really enjoyed spending the week there. Would definitely recommend.

Very Nice Lakefront Property

Everything was very nice about the property and exactly as described. It was spacious with plenty of room for us to hangout together or separately if we chose. My only complaints were regarding the kitchen. The floor was not as clean as it should’ve been upon our arrival. Also, we had to contend with ants until I used salt as a deterrent that kept them off the kitchen counter for the duration of our stay.

Beautiful home and the perfect space for a family weekend!

My husband and I stayed here with our immediate families for our wedding at Ivy Rose Farm and this was the perfect house! It was absolutely stunning and the outdoor decks and views were our favorite. The only downfall I would say is the driveway is quite steep and our grandma could not walk it. Other than that, no complaints and we would 100% stay here again!

Cozy and Scenic

We loved our stay in this house! It was cozy and clean! Everyone was talking about how much they loved the house, we loved being able to use the lake. And going toward the end of October was a great decision because the leaves were stunning over the lake!

Leadership Retreat in Style

We were a group of 7 women on the leadership team of a homeschool co-op meeting for our annual spring planning retreat. This home allowed us to spread out comfortably through all of the bedrooms, cook meals with ease, eat those meals inside or out on the deck, have meetings, play games, do crafts, and have a wonderful time together! Thank you for providing such a well-stocked clean home for our enjoyment. There was also plenty of parking for everyone next to the house and up the hill of a driveway to the parking pad. Would definitely recommend for a group!

Great House for a big group!

My family all came in Moneta for a wedding. The house was perfect for our group...ages 11 up. The kids loved the dock, paddle boards, and the lake fun. House had so much to do for the kids with pool table etc. downstairs. The decks were wonderful and roomy. Enjoyed the view from the decks & our morning coffee. Would definitely come back to this lovely home & beautiful area!

Men’s Lake trip

Semi-annual get together with HS buddies - class of ‘83. Loved the home. Loved that we all had separate rooms. All modern amenities - all worked as described. Big TV’s in separate areas provided opportunities for the sports loving guys, as well as the music fans. The furniture in the main living area could be a bit more cozy, but there was plenty of seating. We truly enjoyed our stay and appreciated the value. We’re considering booking again for next year. Thanks!

Thanksgiving tradition

Our family decided to make a new Thanksgiving tradition after Losing Loved ones this year. This house was perfect. Beautiful house with beautiful views. Does need some TLC but worked great for our family! Will Consider this house next get together!

Great house just a few things to be aware of

Great house and set up for a family/friends vacation. A few things to be aware of: steps can be dangerous (stones that aren’t physically attached to the ground so be very cautious when walking to the water). There is no boathouse and it is just a floating dock. If you are bringing multiple boats, you can make it work but it is less than ideal. Hot tub and outdoor space at the house we’re our favorite hangouts.

Beautiful house and lake view. Outdoor decks/terraces and seating were very dirty. Needed to be wiped down before using. Seating at the fire pit was unusable due to need for cleaning. Challenging walk to dock and lake. Path/stairs to the lake are not for young children.

Great house but walk to dock tough

The house was very clean and well furnished. Our only complaint about the house was the walk to the dock/lake area. If you have anyone in your group with limited mobility they will not be able to walk down to enjoy the lake because of the distance and grade. I think this should have been called out in the listing. All in all we had a great time and made the best of it. Thank you!

Lake Life

We were a group of two families who thoroughly enjoyed vacationing on the lake. We’ve always gone to beaches in the past, but have come to love Lake life. There wasn’t a dull moment I would highly recommend you rent a pontoon boat to really enjoy the lake, it’s gorgeous. We liked pulling the boat up to Drifters and Mitchell‘s marina for lunch, dinner and drinks. So much to do-fish, paddle board, tube and wave run. We had 8 kids ranging in ages from 5 to 22. The house accommodated everyone perfectly older kids played pool at night and little ones with adults just enjoyed chilling out by the fire pit. We will definitely come back again great service.

Annual family vacation

There were 18 of us (10 children) and we all found a comfy place to sleep (not all in beds). The home is very nice and as stated before the views from the decks are beautiful. The communities electric went out and when it came back our internet didn't work (xfinity problem not Beville). Mike made some phone calls and got them out sooner than expected. His men that came out to check it couldn't fix the problem but they did fix a flat tire we had which saved us hours of run around! We all agreed it was our best week yet at SML and would recommend Foothills Retreat for a family vacation.

Misleading Listing

The house was lovely although not comfortable for 10 adults. Seating was most hard side chairs with one two seater couch in the great room. The lot was EXTREMELY steep and not easily navigated by those of us with some balance and mobility issues. Access to the lake was challenging for all - one section in particular where there were no steps only uneven stepping stones that appeared to be washed out by recent rains. None of the bedrooms contained televisions so watching a program was difficult when the room was full of people. The pictures were out of date and not indicative of the property. We would not stay here again.

Perfect Family vacation

We had a great family vacation. All of my family loved the house, we had plenty of room, we had 14 of us. This was our first family vacation with all of us together, with my sons now having their own family and they were all sad to leave and can't wait to do it again next year. The house was nice and clean and very organized. The maintenance man was so friendly and very nice. If there was any downfalls it would be not enough silverware and a big sectional couch would have been nice so we could sit comfortable watching a movie( but that is just little stuff). We would still go back there next year again, but you need to put a ski lift in from the dock to the fire pit..LOL...that was a killer or it just could have been that we all are way out of shape..LOL. Thank you so, so much for our fantastic family vacation and all of the memories we created. I would highly recommend your place to anyone. Once again we can not thank you enough for letting us vacation in your home.

Disappointing

Having booked several houses over the years, I’ve never run into so many issues or been as disappointed in my selection Pros: - interior matches picture and description - Modern/updated interior - Layout was great for a group of 10 - Game room was a hit - Proximity to boat rentals, restaurants and the grocery store Cons: - ANTS! There were ants everywhere when we arrived. There were dozens of ant traps in the kitchen, on the floor, on the counters, it was so disgusting. - treacherous hike down to the dock was less than ideal, resulting in a portion of our group not being able to enjoy the dock or be able to board the boat. Not recommended for children or older adults with any mobility concerns. - Broken stone step on the walkway resulting in injuries. - Damaged door locks preventing the house from being able to be secured that were never repaired - The ice maker was broken. The property mgmt. company said they’d bring ice daily, they brought it 1x - Slow responses from property management, it took 2 calls, an email and 6 hours to even get a text back. The majority of the issues were never resolved before we left.

Had a great time connecting with old high school friends who now live spread out along the eastern seaboard. House was clean and comfortable. Pool table and fooseball table we big hits. We were able to park a boat at the dock.
