"The hotel is very conveniently located. It’s 5 minutes away from the train and the tour bus stations and 10 to 15 minutes away from the major attractions. I only used taxis once in hope to see the Golden Temple but be aware that most temples close at 4 PM in Takayama. All the hotel staff were very helpful and friendly. I’d say 70 % speak English but have your Google Translate ready to use. Good breakfast. People enjoyed the onsen and told me great things about it. Small bathroom. Daily housekeeping service was impeccable. I would stay here again if I come to Takayama."
"It’s like having an apartment for yourself, that’s why it’s called residence i think. Big room , have all the amenities as described, even a washing machine inside! I thought it will be in common areas, the fridge is a good size , not the usual mini one, i like the layout, plenty of storage, Takayama station is just 2-3 mns walk, it’s walkable to other attractions(5-15 mns) & plenty of restaurants or shops . Just the tv , no English channels as with other Japanese hotels.I felt safe & really happy w/ this hotel, i thought it’s old but was surprised it’s quite new , modern & spacious, For the price i got it’s really a gem."
"What an experience to understand the culture of Japan from the rooms to the amenities. We did not order the dinner which was a big mistake as the town at night was closed except for an Indian testairant"
"The hotel is excellent especially the hotel staff. Although we were late, the shuttle bus was still searching for us in the train station. He also led the tour for star watching at night and it was amazing.
The hotel is really traditional and the meal was so good. We loved the outdoor and private onsen. Environment was exceptional peaceful in the forest."
"The ryokan has excellent breakfast and dinner buffets, ping pong, billiards, karaoke, game room, manga library, massage chairs, and of course indoor and outdoor onsens. "
