Vor 120 Jahren bestimmt eine gute Unterkunft!

Wenn Sie noch niue ein Hotel gebucht haben, das schon vor 20 Jahren hätte abgerissen werden sollen: Das Jacaranda ist ein leuchtendes Anschauungsobjekt! Die Lage ist zwar ansprechend und auch das Personal ist sehr nett, aber ansonsten ist es eine Lotterbude!

Great get-away

We have stayed here three times before with the first two being excellent, but the third disappointing after it changed ownership. Now it seems to be back on track. The grounds are again well kept, the rooms clean and comfortable, even if you might have to wait a while for the hot water to come through. Beds are extremely comfortable . A lot of families came to spend the Christmas holiday and children had a great time with a staff member obviously designated to entertain them. Meals were buffet style while the hotel was full, so nothing gourmet but a plentiful and well presented variety. On our first day we ordered from the menu. when there were few people. The pool is lovely, and very clean, but be prepared for the low temperature. The management thoughtfully provided entertainment each evening (singers, dancers, acrobats) and offered organised excursions (bird watching, nature walks) to those that wished.

Lovely place

The staff here were exceptionally attentive and friendly. The rooms are very clean and comfortable. Hotel needs upgrading in some respects, but the idiosyncrasies are easy to overlook because of the positives. beautiful gardens and surroundings. Very peaceful and serene, isolated (in a good way) location. Will visit again.

Peaceful and relaxing

We really enjoyed our stay. It was the perfect place to relax because of the views and birds, but simultaneously a productive place to get work done because great wifi. Meals were excellent. Staff were amazing, attentive without being intrusive. Ambrose was particularly kind. It was nice to be near town but away form the hustle and bustle and noise.

The hotel overlooks a beautiful lake, has a pool to cool off in and the food/ service was excellent. Maybe some people would think the bathroom was a bit dated but it all still works

豪華なホテルに誠意の感じられないスタッフ

チエックインの時は、実ににこやか。おしぼりにジュースのサービスまで。私のザックを運んでくれたスタッフが、日本語の挨拶を披露しながら、やたら馴れ馴れしい。灰皿を持って来た時には、日本のタバコか、としげしげと銘柄を覗き込む。チップが欲しいが私が反応しないので、せめてタバコでも、ということか？ 夕食時の食堂は、中は大勢の白人客を中心に騒がしい。まだ空席は残っているがどうしようか、と迷っていると席はここだ、と庭に面したテラス席に案内される。まあ、こちらの方が静かでいいか。ふと気づくと、テラス席には、隣のケニア人らしい2人組と私だけ。夜気はそれなりに寒い。このホテルには、席の選択権も無いのか！？　翌朝の朝食時は更にヒドイ。念のため、席は決まっているのか、と問うと昨夜･今朝と 決まっているとぶっきらぼうに答える。そのエラソーな態度！誰が、何の権限があってそう決めたのだ？朝はレセプションのスタッフも、昨夜と打って変わって無愛想な態度。ガイド付きの湖までのウオーキングを申し込んだが、散々待たされた。この対応の豹変と態度の悪さの理由は何か？初っ端のポーター役をしたスタッフが、チップも渡さない悪い客と評判を立てたのか、と勘繰り、ウオーキングガイドのスタッフに尋ねてみたが、特に慣習として根付いているわけではなく、客がいい印象を持てば、しるしとして渡すことはあるし 、渡さなくてもいいし、場合によっては通貨ではないコインを渡すこともある、とのこと。すると何が原因か？私は宿に着いた時に、バックパッカー並のザック（かなり古びて汚れた）を担いで現れているので、当初の下にも置かない歓待ぶりの方が意外だった。また、食事時には、中の食堂にもケニア人らしい客が何人もいたので、単なる白人優先主義とも思えないし、最初に顔を合わせている以上、マイナーな東洋人差別でもないらしい。謎は残る。いずれにしても、敷地も広大で、施設も豪華なこういうホテルは私の好みではないし、向こうも私のような客は好まないだろう。そのへんはお互い様で、こちらも、それでも一番安い宿として選んだのだが。なお、このホテルをナクル湖国立公園のエリアとして紹介しているのは、はっきり言って間違っている。ここは全く別のElementaita湖という湖に近い宿で、国立公園とは別のエリアになる。幸い、今回この湖でフラミンゴを見ることができたが、元々の予定はナクルの町の近くで一泊、そこで情報を得た上で、北の方のボゴリア湖に向かおうか、と考えていた。ナクルの町を過ぎて、バスがどんどん南下、1時間近くも走行を続け、こりゃ完全に目算違いだった、と落胆していた。エリアの違いは旅の目的を台なしにするので、是非、厳密にやって頂きたい。
