Everything was as I expected. I booked the room because I needed to be in the city the first Saturday in December and even three months out the cheapest option with a private bath was astonishingly high - even higher closer to the date. I took a chance on this, and it was fine, but I’d rather not repeat it if I don’t have to.

Room was clean and quiet and staff were friendly and efficient. In the winter - know that when you first get into the room it will be hot - but you can turn on the air-conditioner and a fan (and open the window) to keep it cool. The shared bath is ok - two toilet closed stalls - very sparse but fine. If you were in a college dorm this might feel familiar. Good location - felt safe and the area around the hotel was clean. Recommend for the adventurous who don't need a lot of space or their own bathroom.

Rooms were dirty, tired and impossibly small. The hallways smelt of stale urine. Sketchy characters seemed to have taken up residence there. There was zero customer service and overall felt worse than the cheapest hostel. There is a new owner and half the hotel has been turned into some private club. Before this takeover I stayed here a dozen times and always loved it. Now it is definitely neglected and down in the dumbs. Do NOT stay here!!

I've stayed at The Jane many times over the years. The recent configuration has lost the charm of the past. The desk staff was alright but not engaging. And the room was too damn hot. I had the window open in mid-November with the A/C running and it was too hot to sleep. I guess I'll find somewhere else to stay next time.
