This is a true off-grid retreat tucked into the lush Hamakua Coast — think private waterfalls you can swim in, panoramic views, and nothing but peace and nature in every direction. The property runs on solar power and rainwater catchment, and access is via a rugged country road that requires a 4WD or AWD vehicle (standard rental cars and low-clearance vehicles will not make it up — please plan your rental car accordingly before booking).     This home is hand-built single-wall construction in true Hawaiʻi ranch style — no A/C needed thanks to the cool elevation, constant trade-wind breezes, and crisp evenings perfect for sleeping with the windows open.
    The property is fully off-grid: solar power with battery storage and generator backup, plus catchment (rainwater). Please be mindful of water and electricity use, just as you would at home. We`ll send full instructions before your stay.
    Access is via a private gravel road. A high-clearance AWD or 4WD vehicle is required — standard rental cars and low-clearance vehicles will not make it up. Please plan accordingly when booking your rental car.
    True rural setting on 100 acres: expect birds, frogs, geckos, the occasional rooster, and a friendly resident horse and cows. This is part of the magic — if total silence and zero wildlife is what you`re after, this isn`t the right fit.
    The property is remote. Plan to stock up on groceries and supplies in Hilo (about 35 minutes away) on your way in — there is no quick run to the store from the ranch.
    Cell service is excellent on the property, and fast Starlink Wi-Fi runs throughout the home, so you can stay connected when you want to.
    Located in a safe, beautiful part of the Big Island, well away from any active lava flow, with excellent air quality and clean mountain air.
    Children are welcome — please supervise kids around the waterfall, swimming hole, animals, and trails. This is a working ranch and a wild property, not a manicured resort.
    IMPORTANT: A high-clearance 4WD or AWD vehicle is REQUIRED to reach this property. Standard rental cars and low-clearance vehicles will not make it. Plan your rental car accordingly before booking.
