Gorgeous open concept lake house on a quiet pond with everything needed for your summer or winter stay.

This lake house is on Hancock Pond in Embden, ME.

What’s included? A fully stocked kitchen including two standard drip coffee makers, high chair, pack n play, towels, bedding (comforters, pillows, linens), ceiling fans, 5 box fans, gas fire place (inside), outdoor fire pit, 2 kayaks, a canoe, games and puzzles, patio with a gas grill, a picnic table and two Adirondack chairs. 2 TVs, one in the bunkbed room and the other in the living room (feel free to bring your own Fire stick to log into your Netflix/any streaming app, there is Wi-Fi!

In the summer, bring your bathing suit, friends, kids, bikes to enjoy swimming, relaxing in the sun, kayaking, paddling around in the canoe, roasting marshmallows over the fire, fishing, family games on the lawn, and much more! This beautiful clear pond is spring fed and full of sunfish, salmon, trout, bass, and loons! Available onsite is a private dock and boat launch!

In the winter, bring your snowshoes, ice fishing gear, snowmobiles, and skiing gear, Sugarloaf is 30 minutes away! (Unfortunately, there’s no direct access to ITS trails.)

Large and small hikes 15 minutes away! Golfing, ziplines, bowling, grocery stores, restaurants, all within a few minutes drive.

June Vacation 2025

The property was as described in the listing, lovely inside and outside with everything you could possibly need for your stay. The kitchen, bedrooms and laundry room are fully equipped, and there are plenty of games, toys and activities for both adults and children. Comfy beds. The water in the lake is clean and clear. The boat ramp was a plus for us.There is a paddle board and 2 kayaks. (Canoe was not usable as the seats had deteriorated.)TV shows are limited with service as is. During our stay, the close neighbor's barking dogs came right over to the house for frequent visits. Although they seemed friendly, it was a little unsettling, especially for our small grandchildren. There are ceiling fans in 4 of the 5 BRs, along with box fans. No A/C. On a hot day the upstairs air temperature was close to 90, right into the evening. Especially heated is the Grand Room. The BR downstairs is coolest, although it doesn't have a ceiling fan. We forfeited our last day here as the temperature was too high in the house on unusually hot June days.The entrance into the water is soft sand, fun for the little ones to play by the shore, but 3-4 feet into the water you are sinking into an inch or two of mud and leaves. You may want to wear water shoes when wading & swimming here. Small grocery store is 15-20 minutes away, Hannaford is about 1/2 hour away. Despite the heat, our stay was a good one. Thanks, Rachel.

Our stay

The road to the house was a dirt road with many dips then turned into a paved road with a few frost heaves but it brought us to the house. The house was as described with a view of the pond, a nice patio and deck, the bathrooms upstairs and a large kitchen family area. I really only have two issues, there was an ant issue in the kitchen as well as little gnats, bug spray and ant traps did little to help. The other issue was the laundry room, it is very deceiving as the door is level with the landing but when you open the door there are two steep and narrow stairs, no warning, no railing, my husband fell because of this onto the concrete floor, breaking five ribs. As I looked around after the incident I notice rebar sticking up from the floor which could have made things worse. So needless to say we spent two days at a hospital that was 45 minutes away. The vacation was still wonderful as my children and grandchildren enjoyed the pond fishing, swimming and kayaking. I guess my biggest disappointment was the fact that when I did text the owner on our last day to let her know and to make a suggestion about putting a sign on the laundry room door I received no response at all.

Wonderful vacation!

Everything about this place was great. The house is beautiful with a fully stocked kitchen, 5 bedrooms and a lovely back yard leading down to the lake. The water was clean, clear and a little warmer than i expected. There are reeds on the sides but plenty of sandy entry way into the water. It was very kid friendly! All tile floors downstairs so no worries about wet feet or towels when coming in. We would definately stay here again!

Great property for our family getaway

We stayed at this property this past weekend as a trip to reconnect with family (10 of us ranging in age from 14 to 74). We had a great time and the house was very spacious for our needs. The lake views were beautiful and the huge fire pit was amazing!! The kitchen was VERY well stocked, including little things other rentals miss (like spices, cleaning products, plenty of towels). Even though the house only has one shower, there was plenty of hot water and it wasn't really an issue to accommodate each of us. The biggest downside: when we arrived, we needed to throw something away and realized very quickly that the previous renters did not take out the trash (which is located in a pull out cabinet in the kitchen). The smell was overwhelming the moment we opened the cabinet. It was full of rotted food and they had left a dirty diaper in there...not sure how that was missed in the housekeeping between rentals. We stayed 3 nights and the smell never really went away, no matter how much febreeze we sprayed in there. A bummer for sure. But overall, the rooms were clean and cozy, and the beds were very comfortable. There was no a/c but ceiling fans/box fans are provided. There are high quality kayaks and a canoe to use, and lots of games in the shed to play. Overall it was a great weekend together and we would possibly stay here again.

Quiet lake house!

Beautiful home on a lovely lake. Great for families looking to get away for a quiet trip. Bathrooms were both located on second level which was a bit tricky for some of our family but overall we had a wonderful stay!

Lovely Family Style Home

We really enjoyed our stay. It was a great family house for everyone to be together but have separate living spaces to go off too. The kitchen was amazingly stocked to be able to prepare large family meals. We will be looking forward to our next visit. Thank you.

Spacious lakehouse, great for large families!

This house was perfect for our large family to enjoy some summer fun! There was plenty of room for the 12 of us to have space to spread out. The water entrance was great for the 5-12 year olds to launch their floats, and everyone caught fish off the dock! We brought our own TV for the livingroom, and had Apple TV going on rainy days. With the bedrooms upstairs, the kiddos could sleep while the adults socialized. We did have a little rain, but there is a bowling/arcade about 30 minutes away that kept us all entertained! Rachel was a great host- very communicative and helpful!

3rd year in a row!

This was our families third year staying at this property. Always a great time! Rachel is responsive and cares very much that guests have a good time. This property is great for our family; fits all of us, 10+, nice flat yard for games, great dock and entry into the water. Water is super clear! Little speed bump this year of power outage for a couple hours in a storm, but out of the owners owner's control! Planning to stay again in 2023!

Our family had a lot of fun on this beautiful and clean pond .. the stars in the sky at night were amazing … the sky was full! Quiet location.. just not much to do in the area if weather is inclement. Fantastic week overall!

What a fantastic, private, and pet friendly stay!

We had a great time at this lake house. The details were well thought out--- as far as stocking the home/kitchen. There were tons of yard games, outdoor seats, etc in the shed. The kitchen was so much fun to cook in and the grill worked great. We love the fire pit too! Very, very cool. There was plenty of room for us (6 adults & 3 dogs). The listing was accurate. It was comfortable for our 10 day stay! We arrived and were slightly curious as to who the neighbors were- the yard had bridges to each of the neighbors. It turns out all 3 homeowners were in the same family and this middle home sold to Rachel, the owner, a family friend. The neighbors were fantastic. So kind, unbothered by our pups in the lake swimming, and they even invited my lab to play with their chocolate lab, Hank. Though, they made it clear they could keep him away if we preferred (and we did the same)--- but we loved the company from Hank, and it seemed they loved our pups, too! We would recommend this place to anyone looking for a lake house! ((If you're a big fan of restaurants, etc, just a heads up there is close to nothing in the area but a few well stocked grocery stores!)) The orange cat cafe ( about a 15-20 min drive) was awesome and had a great drive thru with coffee/tea/lunch. The outdoors provided tons of entertainment & there are some great trails nearby! -Kara & Matt (and Alex, Pete, Katie & Addie) Thank you so much, again, Rachel!

Nice family spot!

The property was clean and well supplied. The host was quick to reply to emails. We were disappointed that there were no window shades in the bedrooms upstairs, especially when there's kids staying. Thought the bottom of pond was kind of mushy and had quite a lot of pieces of wood. There was a nice little spot for kids to play in water, which was pretty warm. Lots of lawn area to play games, and pleasant neighbors. We enjoyed our stay!

My family and I had a wonderful time staying here. House has everything you need to enjoy your stay. Lawn is flat and level which was nice for outdoor activities. We have stayed at many places over the years and we really like this place. We have already booked for next year.

A great winter vacation

We were very happy with our stay! The house is beautiful, fully stocked, and offered tons of room for all of us. We absolutely loved sledding on the driveway, what a blast! Fishing was a bit slow but we caught a few keepers and everyone had a lot of fun. Would definitely recommend and would love to come back again!
