I make every attempt at my disposal to take care of needs or concerns that a guest might have. I think all other reviews that accompany this website make that point very clearly. My family has been in the rental business in Harpswell for over 100 years. I deal with the public on a daily basis. There are few times in my life that I have not been able to have a reasonable conversation with anyone, this was one of those times. They say this should never be personal, well when I am called a liar, it is. My place not only in my community but as local businessperson and elected civil servant is well known and I believe respected. Even though there has never been a complaint before of their dissatisfaction with the water I worked hard to find a solution for them to no avail. But I do not appreciate being called a liar when all I did was attempt to find a solution to a perceived problem by guests. Lowell's Getaway is on Orr's Island located in the Town of Harpswell which does not have a municipal water system. Water to all domiciles come from individual artesian wells. I know the importance of making sure good drinking water is provided to all guests. The water at Lowell's had been tested "safe to drink" and had a filtration system on it. When I was notified that the water had a "sulfur smell" and tint to it by guests I did four things: 1) Ask that the guests run the water as long as possible to clear it. This problem often occurs in houses that have been "sitting" and have a filtration system to take out iron (there had not been anyone in Lowell's for a while). 2) Went immediately to store picked up 14 gallons of Poland Spring drinking water and dropped them off at Lowell's. 3) Notified the Owner of the situation. 4) Spoke to the Filtration Company who had installed the filter system for consultation. I was told that running the water and checking the filter would be the first things to do. I also asked if there was anything that could be done to completely eliminate this smell from ever happening again to a guest. I was told that a "Pulse-Feeder" made by CHEMTECH is the gold standard to eliminate any temporary smell or discoloration of water. This is a well-known system used for artesian wells. When I was notified by guests that they were still not satisfied with the results after running the water I told them that I would come right over. While doing that I: 1)I called the Filtration Company and asked about an installation of a "Pulse-Feeder " system cost and installation timetable. I was told could be installed the next morning. Installation would take about 2.5 hrs. and be done in a separate mechanical room completely away from guests. 2) I was told by Owner to do whatever was needed to satisfy the guests concerns including "Pulse-Feeder. Upon arrival I checked filter, which was clean, and spoke to one guest only the whole time. I attempted as best as I could to give them the options available, monetary and installation of "Pulse Feeder" the next morning. The guests did not feel comfortable staying and were given a full refund. The water cleared by the next morning. There is now an A&L Lab document in Lowell's stating water is "Safe to Drink"

It was great having you stay at Lowell's Getaway. I hope next time will be for a longer time!

I am so glad you enjoyed your stay. Lowell’s Getaway location allows you privacy but close proximity to several beaches such as Lowell’s Cove on Orr’s Island as well as Cedar Beach, and Mackerel Cove located on Bailey Island.

I am so glad you could enjoy the time with your father. Yes the downstairs and bathroom make this an ideal rental for those who have a tough time climbing steps and stairs.
