Costarican Paradise

Mike and Elizabeth's home exceeded all of our expectation. The house itself was well appointed and comfortable. The AC was cold the view of the coastline breathtaking and who doesn't like to have monkeys in your back yard. The house sits on a quiet mountaintop which is easily accessible. Mike has created a jungle paradise with well maintained trial that he is happy to show you. They both could not be more welcoming and his knowledge of the areas flora and fauna is amazing. They hosted my family for a pizza party, told us where to surf and were there when we needed anything. I can not recommend this stay enough. If your travels find you in CR please make sure to include this jungle paradise in your stay.

Epic Jungle Farm Paradise with ocean views and waves

This place is a must stay on your Costa Rica adventure! Michael and Elizabeth go above and beyond to make you feel welcome, comfortable and relaxed. Plus their over 15 years living in the area make them fabulous tour guides, so you can make the best of all the local beauty, sights, culture and food. We even did a pizza night with them while watching sunset at their outdoor kitchen / bar / pizza oven - yummmm! Michael took us for a walk around the gorgeous farm to see the exotic landscape, fruit trees, monkeys and waterfalls ~ oh my! Close to various super fun surf waves and empty tropical beaches. The place is super clean, well stocked, spacious, kid friendly, nice green lawn, lots of seating, hammocks and a gorgeous ocean view. Don’t miss it ;)

Wonderdul property in a wonderful part of the country!

So I've been coming down to CR for many many years and have been to some great spots throughout the country. Pavones is one area I hadn't been so on this trip we came across Michael and Lizzie's place on their farm. Nowadays when travelling we usually find the area we like and narrow the houses down and always look to see what people say about the hosts. More often than not great hosts not only make your trip better than it would have been but also become friends (if you are into that) if you let them, and end up being people you stay in touch with later in life. Well this property checked off both boxes and we couldn't have had a better time in Pilon/Pavones. Surf was great, company at the house great, and had a great day hanging with Michael and locals after renting a boat for the day and getting the guided tour to ring in the new year! Pizza night is just as everyone says in reviews, you can't miss it, and the outdoor bar/kitchen at sunset is worth the price for admission alone. Thanks guys for everything, we only hope one day we get to return the favor! Pura vida!

Paraiso de Miguel is a fabulous place for a tropical vacation in the Pavones area .

The four of us , two couples , spent 10 days at Paraiso De Miguel . It was a fantastic vacation. The house is nicely laid out with two good size bedrooms each with there own bathrooms a great front and back patio and a kitchen with everything that you need . The jungle is all around the house with Toucans and Monkeys visiting regularly. But what made It a fantastic vacation was the host Micheal and Lizzie . Michael has great knowledge of the area and helped us planning and booking all the activities that we want to experience. Michael organized a trip to the Corcovado wilderness park , a trip to the wildlife rescue park that included snorkelling and a boat trip , a fishing trip ( we got mackerel and bonita tuna which we had for dinner along with Chicken kabobs that Lizzie prepared ) ,horse back riding , ATV rentals , Kayaking trip and which restaurants have the best food . Lizzie gave us great massages and cooked up some fantastic Pizzas when we had pizza night and the second dinner where we had Chicken kabobs.. we had fresh eggs from the chicken coop daily and fresh squeezed orange juice from the orange trees on the property. Michael came with us on several of our trips and basically functioned as a guide. Paraiso de Miguel is a great property in a unique and beautiful location but what made it so special and unforgettable is the effort , the extra work and attention that we got from Michael and Lizzie, it made a great trip in to a unforgettable experience.

Second Trip

My husband and I went back to Paridisio de Miguel this year after a great stay last year. It feels like a home and is one of the best places in Costa Rica that we have stayed. Plenty to do with the ocean, rivers, waterfalls and best sunsets in the country! Michael and Lizzie are wonderful hosts!

Perfect Costa Rican experience!

I booked this home after being drawn to the photos and reviews of other guests. I really knew nothing about the area and didn’t know what to expect. WOW! It turned out to be possibly the best vacation we have had together as a family! Michael and Elizabeth have created such a welcoming environment in one of the most beautiful areas of Costa Rica. The home was spacious, clean, full of beautiful local art and woodwork, and lovely views from each room. The landscaping and gardens are amazing- wonderful flowers, birds, fruits, and herbs. I noticed something new and beautiful each time I stepped outside. In addition to creating such a perfect spot, Michael and Elizabeth were outstanding hosts. Their hospitality was above and beyond any expectations! Michael arranged several adventures for our family and accompanied us on a fantastic trip to the wildlife preserve, snorkeling, an amazing lunch near Golfito, and a boat ride through the mangroves. He shared so much information with us and gave us so much insight into the local people and culture. Our experience in Costa Rica was enhanced greatly by having someone with us that lives in the area and has such a great love and appreciation for it. We are so grateful for all that that they shared with us! Their kindness and consideration was superb. They both considered the needs of all of our family, including our three middle school boys, and truly wanted to make sure we each had a great vacation. More highlights that shouldn’t be missed include horseback riding, a delicious and fun pizza night, Elizabeth’s incredible and relaxing massages, beach time in Zancudo, fresh eggs and fruit in the mornings, monkeys and toucans on the property, sweet greetings from their awesome dog, Paulie, and beautiful mornings and evenings on the porch. Our family cannot wait to return to repeat this amazing experience! The only thing I would want to change is adding more days to our stay in this wonderful spot!

Perfection! The adventure that we dreamed of!

Beautiful Views and gracious host

This was the first time my husband and I ventured this far south in Costa Rica. So glad we did. The condo we rented immediately felt like home. Michael was a great host assisting us with anything we needed: where to eat, what to do, how to do it. The views and the sunsets are outstanding as well as siting with the monkeys right before sunset. We will most definitely come back! Highly recommend! Big place and oh so comfortable!

Haus mit toller Aussicht inmitten eines wunderschönen tropischen Gartens

Luxuriöses Haus mit hervorragenden Betten. Wegen der sehr schönen Lage haben wir auch gerne mal den ganzen Tag am Haus verbracht. Etliche Vögel können in den Morgenstunden von der Terrasse aus beobachtet werden. Viele wunderschöne und einsame Strände sind in erreichbarer Nähe. Die Vermieter vermitteln unkompliziert Ausflüge in die nähere und weitere Umgebung.

One of a kind experience!

If you are traveling to Pavones, this is by far the most amazing place to stay. Not only does the property itself exceed expectations, the owners made this a truly one of a kind experience. The home itself is spacious, comfortable, and set up with everything you’d need for a night or a month! The grounds are impressive to say the least! Views of the jungle and coastline, wildlife at your doorstep, and a safe and secure location. The owners were beyond gracious and welcoming, providing so much information and help. They are well known in the community and we definitely got a much more thorough understanding of the area’s history than we would’ve without their insight. I wish we could’ve only stayed longer! Enjoy

Amazing!

Such a cute condo and the view was incredible! We saw a ton of wild life and got to have our coffee while watching monkeys. Michael and Elizabeth were very welcoming and made sure our trip was unforgettable!!!! Absolutley loved it!!

Paradise!

My husband and I stayed here for a week in February 2018. It was our first trip to Costa Rica and we were not disappointed!!! We give this place 5 stars as it exceeded our expectations. Mike and Lizzy were wonderful hosts. Their love for their property, community and each other shine through. The views from the property are breathtaking. During our stay I saw 4 different types of monkeys, a sloth , many different beautiful birds an eel, many tropical fish and dolphins! We went to a wildlife refuge and saw many animals and birds there as well. We went on an ATV ride for the day which was a blast. The boat ride day was also fantastic. Mike and Lizzy provided us with coffee, fresh fruit from their farm banana bread and muffins every morning. They made a wonderful seafood dinner for us in their outdoor kitchen. Pizza night was memorable. I also booked a reki treatment with Lizzie which was great. I will always remember the beautiful sunsets complete with the sounds of the jungle ! Pura Vida! I will also miss their friendly dog Paulie

Awesome view and Comfortable in every way

The drive to the Pavones area and the lovely Paraiso de Miguel is not what it once was according to the owners who shared some accounts from days gone by which included fords and ferries and very rough roads. Now all you need is a vehicle with good clearance and to sit back and enjoy good roads and the lovely rural Costa Rican countryside. Our hosts were super hospitable, starting each day with delicious fruit from their homestead and specially made gluten free treats for DJ...very thoughtful. Also helping to get us up to speed was the local coffee...the best I have had. The house is roomy and comfortable with all the comforts of home and plenty of solar heated hot water. The duplex is surrounded by gardens, fruit trees, and sounds of the jungle. The photo on this page doesn't do justice to the view of Golfo Dulce down below. It is a daily treat from the comfortable patio. We were blessed with help from our hosts in setting up a boat trip and an island meal, along with a horseback ride on the beach on the gentlest animals. These were made possible by Michael's local connections and his Spanish. It never would've happened without him. Elizabeth's massage skills are excellent and helped me to relax from active days which included walks on the beach and swimming in the Gulf and Rio Claro nearby. The whole experience was the kind I enjoy most where one gets to appreciate the local culture while falling back on comforts of home when returning from an active day. Local restaurants in Pavon were excellent and cheap. Be sure to try patacones and the fish. We would return in a heartbeat and are forever grateful for the kindness and hospitality of Elizabeth & Michael.

All I expected and so much more! Highly recommend this vacation home!

Michael and Elizabeth are wonderful and helpful hosts even before you arrive. Any questions I had were answered promptly and with even more information than I thought to ask. The home and the grounds are so relaxing and comfortable it was hard to tear myself away to see more of the country. Michael and Elizabeth had many great suggestions for places to tour and were very helpful with any directions we needed. Being able to access organic locally grown produce on their grounds or from their neighbors was a big bonus. I loved learning more about permaculture from what they are doing on their property. I hope to return again some day. Thanks so much Michael and Elizabeth!

A Fantastic and Genuine Costa Rica Experience!

What a wonderful experience starting with the owners Mike and Lizzy. Super generous and considerate. They understandably love there home and community which is evident in every aspect of your stay. The property is immaculate and tastefully done with breathtaking views of the ocean. Monkeys, tropical birds, every fruit tree you can imagine. Oh yeah, just a few minutes from multiple super high quality waves if that's you thing. Perfect for a romantic getaway or an unforgettable family vacation. I've been traveling to this area for years. The vibe makes it, you wont find a better spot!

The Most Amazing Family Trip Ever!

Our time in Costa Rica at Paraiso de Miguel was absolutely the best experience we could have dreamed of. Having traveled there years ago, I knew I could expect a beautiful country with gorgeous beaches and jungles, delicious food and friendly locals. But this trip surpassed all that thanks to the amazing hospitality of Michael and Lizzie who made possible a family adventure--two of us and three teenagers-- that we will remember forever. From the minute we got there they offered us just the right amount of attention and help, setting up awesome day trips (hike to waterfall with swimming hole, boat trip to islands for snorkeling and stand up paddling--complete with a packed picnic lunch-- and horse back riding on the beach) and giving us the info we needed to head out on our own to explore the town or the beaches. We had 2 BEAUTIFUL meals prepared by Lizzie, including the pizza night which was a blast!! We spent Christmas day with them on the beach enjoying their annual Christmas feast (roasted pig!) and a bon fire, and ended the week with Michael setting off fireworks from their back lawn to celebrate New Years. Along the way, if we had a scrape or cut, Lizzie was right there to help with some first aid supplies. When we got a flat tire, Michael gave my husband a ride in his truck to get it fixed. They were kind and friendly and super fun. We can't thank them enough for the amazing memories and we will be planning our next visit down as soon as possible! Nothing about this rental fell short, from the house, the hosts, the area, the activities-- everything surpassed our expectations in every way. Thank you Michael and Lizzie!!!

Worth every penny! Peace, privacy, beach, beauty.....

Our family of 5 (2 adults, 2 teens, & a 10-yr old) stayed here for 4 days before Christmas 2016. It was a 7-hr drive from San José but we loved how far away and isolated this was from the crowded city and tourist-packed beaches! (Or, you can fly into Golfito, rent a car, and drive an hour to this rental instead). The property itself is wonderful. The views were spectacular, the gardens groomed, the house outfitted with everything we needed. The weather was great, but nights were a little warm for some family members. Mike and Liz were great hosts - available to book tours, give advice, and interested in getting to know us - and they gave us tons of privacy as well. We booked the boat tour to Los Mogos. It was a long day but the reward of a private island, warm ocean water, and SUP for the first time for my kids were all priceless. During our 4 days, we also drove down to the Panama border to shop for a morning, to Pavones to surf, tide pools at Punta Banco, and to Zancudo for a sunset where we were the only ones on the beach! We brought all of our own food so we can't speak for the local eating places. The markets (Super Comte, and in Laurel) were quite adequate. We would love to come again and will definitely be recommending the place to friends and neighbors - as long as they don't book the week that we want!! Thanks Mike & Liz!

Simply Amazing

I am writing this while sitting on the back porch of the property before we leave in a few hours. It is early in the morning and I am enjoying a nice cup of coffee while looking over a spectacular coastline vista. All I can say is WOW. It is very peaceful and quiet except for the chattering of exotic birds and monkeys in the trees surrounding the property. The property sits at the top of a hill located just the right distance from the water to allow a view of the entire gulf, yet being only a few minute drive away from walking on the beach if you are so inclined. Besides being beautiful, the property is comfortable, well appointed, private and safe. Yesterday my brother and I enjoyed a scuba excursion that included whales, dolphin, sea turtles, rays, etc. The day prior, while exploring the nearby area we actually encountered a sloth. The night before that we enjoyed a wonderful meal at La Pina Bruschetta in Pavones. Our decision to stay at this property was influenced by a local friend who recommended the property and the hosts. Overall, we are very pleased with this property and we intend to return.

Even better than the last time

April 2016 was the third time I have stayed at Paraiso de Miguel. Each time it gets even better than the last time. The landscape is meticulously maintained and the trees and fruits on the property continue to mature... it truly is a beautiful place to kick off your flip flops and relax in one of the multiple hammocks outside overlooking the Golfo Dulce. Mike and Liz are exactly the kind of hosts you want when on vacation in a remote tropical paradise. They have a very laid back vibe but are very accessible and attentive to your needs. They are very knowledgeable about the area and well known and liked in the local community. The new addition of the pizza oven/grilling complex/happy hour bar was a smash hit. After cooling off in the outdoor rain shower (which I love so much I have never once used the nice shower in the bathroom!) we hit the pizza bar where Mike chopped open some coconuts that we used as mixer while watching the sunset and creating our own individual pizzas (delicious home made sauce by Lizzy to boot... highly recommend a pizza night). Are you kidding me? You can keep the hotels... this is my kind of place. There are so many places in the world I want to see and experience but Paraiso de Miguel makes it a really tough decision to go anywhere else. My kids are now at the age where I think they would really enjoy the experience as well... hikes to waterfalls, surfing one of the longest waves in the world, boat trip through the mangroves, monkeys in the trees outside the window, Scarlett McCaws and Toucans flying around. If you want to get away from it all and truly experience Costa Rica in a remote jungle paradise (getting there is indeed part of the adventure!), yet have all the modern conveniences with amazing hosts then this is it. Paradise at its BEST!

What a beautiful home! Very clean, well equipped and very welcoming. The home and grounds definitely exceeded our expectations. The birds and the monkeys we saw were spectacular. The view is to die for.....looking out over the canopy of trees out to the ocean. Amazing sunsets and the grounds surrounding the home are just beautiful. We collected eggs from the chickens and picked oranges off the tree to juice for breakfast, and enjoyed fresh pineapple grown on the property. Michael and Elizabeth were wonderful hosts. Very helpful and knowledgeable about the area and its culture. We experienced an exciting waterfall hike through the lush forest and took a boat ride to Los Mogos where we swam in the warm turquoise water,snorkeled and did SUP barding. And Elizabeth packed us a delicious picnic lunch.. Our last night we had a pizza party where we all created our own pizzas which Michael cooked in their outdoor pizza oven and had fun sharing stories. We ate at many wonderful little authentic Tico restaurants . The food was great and the people are all so very friendly. They really take pride in their country. Can't say enough.....We would highly recommend this place and will defineately be returning!!!!! Beautiful property........Beautiful people!! Pura Vida Tip: We would highly recommend having a 4WD vehicle as the roads are unpaved.

Great place for unwinding and wildlife viewing!

The property is well provisioned for couples or families. We spotted several types of parrots, toucans, iguanas, and hawks. The daily monkey parade was a joy to watch and host Michael couldn't have been more accommodating in suggestions for exploring the area. The property is centrally located for adventures in Pavones, Zancudo, Pilon, and Paso Canoas. This is an ideal place for relaxing in the southern zone and we appreciate everything owner Michael has done to prepare the property for an excellent experience for renters like us.

Descanso

First of all...great directions we found it in the dark! On our arrival, Michael & Paulie (the wonder dog) greeted us with friendly smiles and helped us feel right at home on their property. The house has those extra touches that you miss when your away from your home. Michael was very nice to show Tom & I around the property and Pavones the next day so we could get our bearings. My only suggestion to Mike and Liz would be buying a new grill pan :) as we cooked alot and the one we had may have seen better days;) Tom & I enjoyed every minute we stayed in Paraiso de Miguel. Thank you Mike for your hospitality. Pura Vida!
