We were excited for our stay, but it was overshadowed by safety and cleanliness issues. The host’s dog knocked over multiple children, including our 5-year-old, who scraped her knee on the sidewalk and still wears a large bandage 1.5 weeks later. The listing didn’t disclose that a dog would be roaming freely, even while tethered, which made outdoor time feel unsafe. We requested a partial refund, but were told we should’ve asked the host to put the dog away—even though they weren’t home much. That responsibility shouldn’t fall on guests.
The host also kept a cat outdoors without a proper litter box or shelter. We often found the cat dehydrated on hot days, and it defecated in areas where our kids played. Dog feces were left uncleaned the entire week; I even stepped in one, which was unpleasant and unacceptable. After expressing concerns, we were met with threats from the host, adding to the distress.
While the property itself was fine, the lack of transparency, accountability, and basic hygiene made our stay stressful. We hope future guests are informed about animals on the property and that the hosts take steps to ensure a safe, clean, and respectful environment for all visitors.
