Make sure to bring binoculars to see the seals and/or whales! Super convenient to the entire Mendocino Coast.

An amazing costal getaway

Can’t begin to describe how incredible the view and the deck is at this location. My boyfriend and I had the most relaxing stay here. It is private, serene, and a 25 minute drive to the town of Mendocino. We hope to make this an annual trip. Could not recommend it enough!

Stunning Views!!!

We had such an amazing time. Breathtaking views, cozy cottage, and very helpful property management. We came across deer and rabbits hanging out in the backyard every time we would come back from being out. We enjoyed many amazing hikes and incredible restaurants within a 15 mile radius of this rental. We highly recommend it and can’t wait to come back.

Coastal Treasure

The property was more remote than we anticipated. If you are looking for a true getaway, this is your spot. The local Elk grocery & mercantile store clerks were wonderful and full of ideas to fill our time. We took a trip to Mendocino and Fort Bragg along the beautiful coast. The house was so cozy, clean & charming. We will for sure return

Stunning view!

great place with panoramic ocean view even better than the website. Loved watching the daily rituals and antics of the local harbor seal herd on a spit below the deck. Groceries are very difficult to purchase here, and super expensive, so bring food with you. Know that shops in Elk are closed Tuesdays and in Point Arena closed Wednesdays. We went everywhere on the wrong days!

Really special view

Really enjoyed the cozy vibes of the cottage and well-stocked kitchen for cooking. The view is seriously amazing. Very special to get to relax by the beautiful coastal cliffs. One thing: The doors to the deck look like they're made to open all the way up (and presumably were intended for this) but actually got stuck and became immovable. Flipping through the guidebook for a solution we eventually found a sticky note that said 'don't open the doors, they'll get stuck' -- which is both too little too late -- probably needs more explicit notice, and is also a shame because it'd be amazing if they functioned properly to open up to the wonderful view. Would be great to see that get fixed. Would love to come back.

What a View

We loved our stay at the Elk Rock Beach Cottage from 6/15/25 to 6/20/25. The views of the ocean were amazing. The weather was perfect! The deck was unbelievable and the chaise lounges were very comfy. We could have spent the whole time on the deck. We observed many birds, including bald eagles, ravens, sparrows, hummingbirds, vultures and other birds. We were also serenaded by the cows across the street. You can also observe harbor seals in the cove. There were approximately 40 seals. Bring your binoculars. The house was clean, the kitchen was spacious and included everything you needed, including washer/dryer. The beds were very comfy and the pillows, linens, towels were top notch. I noticed a previous review that discussed the sound from Highway One. Yes, you are feet from Highway One, but the house is insulated and the windows are dual pane so the sound was negligible. The fireplace was used everyday with no issues. The space heaters worked great as well. Internet access was fine and we had no issues with that. We enjoyed the grounds with many CA Native plants, bees, butterflies, etc. The closest full market is in Ft Bragg. There is the Harvest Market and Safeway. We stocked up before we arrived so need for any shopping. This was a much needed rest from the crazy world and hustle and bustle. We were able to just unwind and relax! Highly recommend the home. Vacasa was great keeping us up to date and providing check in/check out procedures.

Little Bit of Paradise

Pictures do not do this justice. Amazing views of the Pacific. Quiet with lots of wildlife. House was very comfortable with everything we needed and a short drive to everything. We will be back!

Beautiful ocean view

This property is located on Highway One right on the edge of a cliff. The views are stunning. The house could use some minor upgrades such as a newer dining room table and chairs (chairs felt loose) and kitchen needs some minor updating. Those details aside the stay was awesome and the pros outweigh any cons in our opinion. We would definitely stay here again.

Fabulous getaway spot

My wife and I just wanted a quick, quiet trip to the coast and boy did this place not disappoint. Very clean and all the amenities you need. They've thought of everything. And the view! It was exactly as the pictures and description show. Highly recommend this spot.

The view was incredible, and the outdoor seating complimented it very well. The house is secluded, but there are plenty of things to do within a short drive. We enjoyed Navarro Winery, Hendy Redwood Grove, dinner at Point Arena pier, and visiting local beaches/trails.

The house is on Hwy 1 and the street noise can be heard over the ocean. The deck is the main attraction, and the rest of the house needs some work (doors, windows).

Great place, but lots of flies

There were tiny fruit/drain flies inside. Besides that it was BEAUTIFUL, but we had to eat outside or very quickly because the flies were all over anything you opened, drink or food. I'll still go back but I'm bringing fly paper traps lol. House is legit, it's a little older but the deck, view, and solitude make up for any of that by far. Still loved our stay, just annoying tiny flies.

Elk Rock

Elk Rock Beach Cottage will live in our hearts forever. We absolutely fell in love with the charming town of Elk, as well as nearby Albion, Mendocino, and Fort Bragg. Even in the rain, the scenery was breathtaking. On sunny days, it truly felt like heaven. We were delighted by the sweet deer in our yard too. Everyone was super friendly. Just two minutes away, Elk Cove Inn is a hidden gem, much like this amazing cottage. It really is a luxurious, modern Oceanside retreat with unbeatable views. Thank you so much! We loved our stay in Elk!

Our stay in Elk

We found the house to be quaint and lovely. The amenities were all wonderful, from the fluffy bedding to the well equipped kitchen. The deck is stunning to say the least and it was where we spent much of each day. We have spent years coming over to the towns of Fort Bragg and Mendocino. This home gave us access to new areas to explore like Manchester State beach. Looking forward to returning!
