"Tis a Gift to be Simple, 'Tis a Gift to be Free..." and it's a gift to explore this well-preserved living history museum!

Great getaway house

Nicely decorated and clean. It had everything we needed, including kitchen supplies and detergent for the washer/dryer. Great rental for our family getaway.

Easy and Well Appointed

This property was just as shown in the listing and met our needs very well. It was well appointed and had many inviting areas to gather and relax in. The kitchen was well equipped and easy to use. Some very nice touches with closets and bathroom storage areas that made staying there user friendly.

Wonderful getaway for peace and relaxation!

We enjoyed our week in Pittsfield and at this home. The house was as described and expected, and it offered the privacy and seclusion we wanted. At the same time, the house is very conveniently located, and activities, beautiful walking trails, and restaurant options were nearby. We very much appreciated the reliable WiFi as some of our party had to work remotely during the week. Also, our pup loved the fenced in yard, the deck is great, and we enjoyed use of the fire pit. Would return again if in the area.

Short stay okay

Cute quirky home. Comfortable but cleaners need to improve cleaning. Dirty refrigerator handle, faucet handle. Only one burner on stove works. Home has potential to be excellent with improvements. No wood provided.

Summer Family Gathering

What a fabulous place! Perfect combination of being out in nature while also being super close to PIttsfield and nearby Lenox, Tanglewood, etc. Also close to local ski areas (not needed in summer, but thinking ahead...) We loved having all the different areas for hanging out - a deck overlooking beautiful hills, a fire pit on the other side, the den, a big kitchen table for playing games AND a living room. Three great bedrooms as well as a kitchen with induction stove, fabulous coffee maker and more. We would definitely stay here again. I would note that if you have difficulty navigating stairs, this may not be the place for you as there are steps to kitchen, into the house and into other areas of the interior.

Updated house with 1900 Odor

Apart from the smell of an old house, the stay was okay overall. One will require extra laundry and cleaning for their clothing if they use CPAP. The surrounding is wooded, but we still think better curtains would be nice. Fencing was excellent around the house and helped keep our pet inside. The exterior view is not what it seems like in the advertisement photographs, which are most likely from when it was renovated.

Great overall with a few issues

I want to start by saying I would definitely stay there again. The house is great Spacious and charming and pretty well equipped. The fire pit and fireplaces are lovely. However, I was very disappointed when after checking the listing and confirming via chat twice that there was a portable crib, there was not. When I asked about it after we checked in I was told sorry you can get one at target up the street where you can buy one. When I said how disappointed I was after having confirmed several times, they offered to drop off a portable crib, but no mattress. We had to make other arrangements which was frustrating, especially since we were told it was included in the rental. I would expect much better cleaning service. When we arrived, one of the couches was covered in crumbs, Hand towels had dried toothpaste on them, wet towels had been left in the dryer, and towels in the bedroom had laundry detergent spilled on them A screen door would really help keep the bugs out when entering and exiting. The location is excellent and beautiful. I wouldn’t stay in the winter as the driveway is very steep. But, After sorting out the problems, overall we really enjoyed our stay.

Disappointed

The location is great and the kitchen is well equipped. Dogs are permitted. The house was extremely cold and there was a note on the thermostat that it was set for heat and not to touch it! They also requested that you don't wear shoes in the house. The floors were freezing! The house has many steps which we found dangerous. The bathtub is unusually high making it difficult to get into - unless you are 6 feet tall. There are no grab bars making it unsafe. When I have stayed at VRBO's in the past there is always info about the area, ie. where are grocery stores, restaurants, etc. There was not such info at this house. Texts messages were answered promptly though. There is a smart tv that lets you stream what you subscribe to. There is no access to network tv. When we left, I left my C.Crane portable radio and a flashlight on the stand next to the bed. When I realized I had left the items, I texted Lucas and he checked with the housekeeper. I was told they were not found. I imagine the owners of this house use a company to manage it. I never met Lucas or Drew.

cold shower 2 years in a row/Driveway sheet of ice

The shower water was cold/cool 2 years in a row. We rented this property for a second time this year and it was worse the second time. None of our guests showered :( I was given a 10% refund only after calling and demanding it. The host asked me to take pictures of the faucet. VRBO said I should have taken a video after the fact. It was ridiculous.The driveway was a sheet of ice. I asked about the condition of the driveway prior to arriving as I knew it was on a steep hillside. When we arrived, we could barely make it up the driveway with our 4-wheel drive vehicles. I was told by the host to find a shovel and salt and tend to it ourselves. There was no salt at the property. We had to go out to find salt to "tend to the driveway." After being at the property for 24 hours...a plow truck came to throw sand down...a little too late. Never again-
