Playa Serena

Get active on the water, top up your tan and sip on a cool drink at an oceanfront bar at this popular sandy haven.

Spend many happy vacation hours on the sand and in the water of Playa Serena. Swim, sunbathe and enjoy water sports on an attractive 1.1-mile (1.8-kilometer) urban beach that is lapped by the Mediterranean Sea.

Spread out your towel and snooze under the sun’s warm rays or rent a sunbed and parasol for your seaside relaxation. Cool off with a swim or if you prefer to cut through the water at a great speed, rent a windsurfing board. This is a good spot for windsurfing owing to the consistent winds. Other water sports on offer include paddleboarding and bodyboarding. Equipment can be rented from two establishments at the beach.

When you are back on dry land order a seafood meal or some tapas in one of the beach bars which are called “chiringuitos” in Spanish. Afterward, go for a stroll on the palm tree-lined promenade. Then come back to the beach and continue with your sunbathing.

Playa Serena can be enjoyed at most times of the year. It is located in a part of southern Spain that typically receives more than 300 days of sunshine per year. So even if you come in the fall or winter you should experience some sunny and warm days.

End your fun-filled and chilled out day at the beach with an early evening drink in a chiringuito.

To get to Playa Serena walk from your accommodations, ride a bus or take a taxi. If you are driving, there are spaces available to park for a fee. Among the facilities on this beach are lifeguards in the summer months, changing rooms, showers and toilets, including two that are adapted for people with reduced mobility. This long and wide stretch of sand has more than a dozen access points with some that have been adapted with ramps and rails.
