Beautiful Bayfront Retreat with Unbeatable Bay and Gulf Views

The previous owner is a retired seafaring Commander who dropped anchor on Bolivar and rebuilt this modern retreat after Hurricane Ike destroyed their original beach home. The 360 degree ocean and bay water views remind him of his time at sea in the wheelhouse. We hope you enjoy those beautiful views as well.

Sunrises over the Gulf of Mexico from your front porch and Sunsets over Rollover and Galveston Bays from the back porch or the lighted private pier are magnificent. There are redfish, trout, flounder, and crabs to be caught from the 150’ pier. Yachts, sailboats, kayaks, commercial tugs and barges frequent the Intracoastal Waterway just a few hundred yards off this private pier. It is only a short walk out the front of the house to the beach for surf fishing or to Rollover Pass for some of Texas’s best saltwater fishing.

After swimming, sunbathing or shelling on the beach out front, use the outdoor shower and hit the spa/hot tub and deck area back at the retreat. Watch the sunset over the water and distant palms on one of the multiple decks.

The free Ferry to Galveston Island is only a 20 minute drive away where you can enjoy the Pleasure Pier, Moody Gardens, Schlitterbahn, The Strand, multiple restaurants, and other activities. The Commander’s Retreat is a world away from the hustle and bustle of the big cities, yet just a short drive if you want to hit Houston, Beaumont, or the casinos in Lake Charles which are just over 2 hours away.

Nice View but lacked safety for kids

My family enjoyed our 3-night stay, and the home accommodated us comfortably. We especially appreciated the large patio underneath the house and the firepit. The view of the bay was absolutely beautiful and one of the highlights of our trip.However, there were several maintenance and safety concerns that impacted our overall experience. The front door was very difficult to open and required significant force to get it open. The hot tub was not clean upon arrival and contained bugs and white algae. Although the host responded quickly and sent housekeeping to address the issue, the water remained unsanitary and we did not feel comfortable using it.The decks had both missing and loose slats in the railing, which posed a serious safety risk for children. The safety gate on the back deck was broken and had been propped up against the railing rather than repaired.Some of the amenities listed in the property description were either missing or not functional. The outdoor shower was capped off and could not be used. The portable crib did not have a bottom pad, making it unusable, which was especially inconvenient since we had planned to use it for our child. The outdoor grills were in poor condition. One was rusted out and one was filled with trash. The home also needs a deep cleaning. We found both dead and live roaches during our stay, and pesticides were stored in places that were easily accessible to children.While the home had potential and provided

I contacted the host to let him know we had found a couple problems with the cleanliness of the house and a broken step on deck. There was missing railing on the front deck, the hot tub was not heating. He came several times to work on the hot tub, finally fixing it on the last day, He did not address any other issues. He told me several times he would give us a discount because of the hot tub problems but as of today, one week after we left, he has not carried through with a discount. The location of the house was great with views of the beach and the bay but overall the house needs some work and cleaning.

Short and to the point

Overall it was a nice trip caught fish and crab off the deck, that was the goal. Beds slept comfortably (we did not use pullout), house stayed cool, it was close to the beach. We didn’t get to swim much, lots of jelly fish this time but that has nothing to do with host. He was friendly and responsive.

Had a Fantastic Time

This is really a great property. Beautiful bay house with great fishing and a very nice and responsive owner in Jon. Jon did his absolute best to help me out with any questions that I had during my stay. The fishing off the back pier was quite good. I used fresh dead shrimp on a 2/0 hook under a poppin' cork and in the evenings it was almost constant bites from a variety of species including redfish, black drum, saltwater catfish, a croaker I believe, and I even hooked a stingray but luckily it got off. 5 out of 5 stars was my experience.

Family beach trip

The property was absolutely beautiful! Waking up to the view everyday was amazing! The master bed is liking sleeping on a cloud! They have all the dishes you need, multiple tvs, grills, fire pit, big dinner table and comfy living room! We all really enjoyed our stay and can not wait to stay again! The only downside was all the bugs at night but there not much that can be done about that and it is nothing against the property

Beautiful home, great host.

A hurricane hit the area 4 days before we were to check in. The host stayed in contact and kept me up to date on the electrical situation and even offerd to let us cancel. But we had this planned for a year. He let me know electricity was restored the morning of and the home was clean and ready for us when we arrived. The hottub which was the big draw worked perfectly and my sister and all our kids had a blast. I can not thank you enough. We will be back.

We have rented this property several times and have never been disappointed. Sunset over the bay, never disappoints! We love to fish and crab, and throw cast nets from the private pier. Easy to find and good parking we always wish we could stay longer!

Incredibly Relaxing!

Incredible place. Amazing views. Close enough to find things to do but far enough to be able to relax in peace. Sitting in the hot tub at night listening to the waves was so peaceful. The layout of the house was perfect for the 4 of us allowing each kid to have their own space to get away if they wanted. The living room was spacious enough for us all to enjoy together. Highly recommend this property. Only wish we could have stayed longer!
