Step through an unassuming green door on an unassuming street in Vila Nova de Gaia to find an exquisite gem of a hotel. Completely renovated in a centuries old building, the Caleway Hotel is an oasis of calm charm in a bustling city. Staff couldn’t be more helpful and the “honour bar” is a delightful touch. The hotel is only a short walk to the riverfront and its stunning views of Porto. The only small disappointment was the breakfast at 15 euro per person which had run out of a few things the one time we decided to dine in and the coffee machine was having a hard time keeping up with demand.
