The pool was enjoyable. Spacious for swims but can lounge as well. Making reservations for non-buffet dining was miserable. Day of arrival your only choice is buffet. Property is in despair, could be nice if some $$ was reinvested.

Evaluemos por etapas: Alimentación muy mala. A todos les hizo daño en algún momento la comida del bufet principal. Además es fea la comida! El personal hay buenos y malos. Los malos son groseros al atender y esperan de entrada la propina. Y claro uno está acostumbrado a dejar propina pero a esta se la gana. Estos malos elementos ni el gracias se antoja uno a darles. Las habitaciones ya necesitan remodelación. Camas, colchones y muebles. Tienen ya sus 20 años. Gimnasio para los que les gusta. Deberían también equiparlo y expandirlo un poco más! La playa es excelente. Los cócteles flojos! El teatro aún mantiene buenos shows. Y vale la pena visitarlos. Si ya compraste aquí pregunta por favor por la programación. Por qué si no lo haces ellos al recibirte en recepción no te dan buena información.

The rooms were far nicer in the pictures than in person. The bathrooms and the grout on the floors were dirty. Clearly not maintained. Making dinner reservations was incredibly frustrating. You’re required to go through the concierge but there were only two people working. We waited in line for over ann hour only to be told there were no reservations left. Completely unacceptable for the size of the resort. The food was absolutely terrible. We found a pizza restaurant that was hidden and that’s pretty much all we ate. The only bright spot was the bartender Stephanie, in the lobby outside the buffet. Overall it was a horrible experience and I would not recommend this resort.

Our room was very clean tho we only slept in it . Everything is walkable to get to and the beach is spectacular. All staff were friendly and helpful tho there is a language barrier with some but they are quick to find someone to translate. Food for everyone with a main buffet and another at the snack bar. Breakfast is pretty much the same everyday choice of eggs or omelet different meats potatoes cereal yogurt etc definitelywont go hungry..suppers change daily. Have a la cartes if you so desire with an option to buy lobster dinner on the beach. We stayed for 8 days and didnt want to leave. Now bare in mind it is an older resort with dated rooms but the beds are top notch. We did experience 2 mornings with a hot water issue but was quickly fixed. We dont go to hang out in our room so we were fine with it. The grounds are kept meticulous with constant cleaning and for a smoking resort you dont see any butts or garbage. Now for the cons..just 1. They dont have enough loungers or umbrellas for the capacity they have so everyone goes down early and reserves them so if you want one by the pool or beach you need to go down by 530 am or you wont have one. Rooms have pop and water if you leave a couple pesos in the fridge with a note they will stock you with beer. I have stayed at higher end resorts and found the service at this resort far surpassed them The premium rooms come with a butler and a separate restaurant for breakfast and lunch. Will definitely return!!

Our first room, which was not ready by check in time, had blood stains and a dead bug in the bed, mold in the shower, along with dirty old food on the coffee mugs. There was wet paint everywhere and 3 articles of clothing were ruined. All 3 still had paint after laundering. The casino, which we chose this resort for, consisted of only 1 open table game, and only 14 slot machines. As people who work in casinos, we were extremely disappointed. There was a maximum of $1,000 pay out, which negates the fun in playing and spending a lot of money. We had food poisoning our second to last day and are still recovering 5 days after being home. I reported it to the hotel, they sent up a doctor, and the doctor tried to charge me $100 just for the consult, and said if I called again it would be $200. Many of the daily activities were done early/late and in different locations than specified so we kept missing them, causing frustration in our daily planning. Our “butler” stated this was the norm. There weren’t enough pool/beach chairs for the guests. When I asked Guest Services, after waiting 15 minutes, for a recommendation on going into town and shopping she said she didn’t know and couldn’t give me a recommendation. I would never recommend this resort to anyone. I gave this location 2 stars because the beach was well kept, the pool was beautiful, and our butler, Jose, was incredible, as well as “Minnie” the activities director.

Excellent stay! The resort was clean, the room was very nice and the pools and beach were amazing. Somehow we had a premium level package so we were assigned a butler and he was fantastic. There were a couple hiccups with our room keys and room safe and the staff dealt with them so quickly. My only criticism is that the food was so so but thats to be expected at a big resort like this. Id come here again!

Occidental Caribe resort over all was very good, but our butler, Juan Carlos is who made our vacation EXELLENT. Juan greeted us at check-in and assured us that he would take care of all our needs, Juan was true to his word! We were a family of 14 in 6 rooms, and Juan remembered each of us and our room numbers. Juan also greeted us with voice message every morning, made our reservations in restaurants, stopped by to visit pool-side, and even personally dropped a friut plate the night befor we left. Juan was fun, friendly, efficient and dedicated. Juan quickly went from staff to friend to family. Thank you Juan Carlos!!! We have stayed in Barcelo properties in the past and have always had a wonderful experience. We could see signs of age in the rooms but we could also see the commitment to update as well. For example, one of our party saw an elevator full of new beds, and staff working diligently in rooms. Our only disappointment was the quality and variety of food. We didn't go hungry by any means but that is the only area Occidental Caribe could improve. Thank you everyone for making our family vacation wonderful!!!

The initial room had one dresser that, when I tried to open the drawer, the front came off in my hand. Rather than replace the dresser, they changed our room to one overlooking the pool. However, they failed to tell us that the pool was very, very noisy from morning to late afternoon. The toilet, for the first three days, did not flush properly. They replaced it on the fourth day. The food was fine.

Staff was great. Beach was great and pools were great. Rooms could use some upgrades. The food was good, the buffet was overcrowded and chaotic. there needs to be a better method for making reservations. We waited in line for an hour and a half to make reservations and we were not able to eat at three of the restaurants because they were booked.
