My stay at Makanda in Costa Rica was nothing short of exceptional. The property itself is stunning, with breathtaking views and an atmosphere that feels both luxurious and deeply connected to its natural surroundings. Every detail of the resort reflects thoughtful design and a commitment to creating a truly elevated experience. What sets Makanda apart, however, is the level of service. The staff was beyond helpful and genuinely attentive, rivaling what you would expect at some of the finest hotels in the world. Candy and Alfredo went above and beyond in assisting with our private plane arrangements and ensured that every aspect of our stay was seamless and perfectly coordinated within the resort. Alexander, who took care of us in the pool area, made an already incredible experience unforgettable. His attentiveness and care were unmatched, and he truly spoiled us while we enjoyed some of the most magical sunsets I have ever seen. I rarely take the time to write reviews, as I generally expect excellence from the places I choose to stay. However, Makanda exceeded those expectations in every way, and it absolutely deserves recognition. This is a destination I would return to without hesitation.

Property was very nice although the walking up and down the hills within the property was difficult and felt dangerous especially on the rolling surface installed. Service was great although there was a tendency to gouge for trivial services (ie salt and lime on a beer glass was an upcharge, Evian bottles of water $9 each). Bartending, waiters and golf cart drivers were definitely the saving grace. Our room A/C system was marginal.

Review zu Makanda by the Sea. Costa Rica Subjektive Meinung Gebucht Villa, 1 Woche (ca. 1300 Euro/Tag ggf + Tax+Service)) Das Hotel ist sehr schön gelegen, am Hang, mit Blick auf das Meer. 2 Plantschpools mit Liegen und Bar. Abgeschlossen und gesichert mit Parkplätzen. Shuttle zum Strand. Viele Restaurants "in der Nähe", zu Fuß eher etwas für sportliche, wenn kein Auto verfügbar! Zimmer: komfortable und sehr sauber. Wirepool auf der Terrasse, 2 Liegen, Tisch, sonst nichts. Ab ca. 15:00h kein Schatten mehr. Ca. 5m Pool hinter dem Haus . Dieser ist kaum zu benutzen, da viel Laub im und um das Becken. Bodenbelag EXTREM rutschig bei Nässe und sehr gefährlich (Unfallgefahr) . Eigentlich nicht nutzbar. Inneneinrichtung : alles Nötige da, aber sonst nichts über Standard. Strand: sehr schön, ruhig, nur wenige Leute, kein öffentlicher Zugang. Liegestühle, Handtücher. Keine Wassersport , Toys, o.ä.) Essen: gut, sehr teuer. Frühstück: Kaffee, Saft, Früchte kostenlos, Karte, ab 25 Dollar. Spa: nüchtern, nur das Nötigste. Meine Massage -250 Dollar- war unbefriedigend) Sonstiges: Service und Freundlichkeit am Restaurant ok, die am Empfang ist noch sehr ausbaufähig (würde da mal eine Schulung in Asien empfehlen) Zusammenfassend: so wie sich das Hotel selbst lobt, auch hinsichtlich der Preise und auf Grund unserer Erfahrungen in Asien, hatten wir wohl zu hohe Ansprüche. Alles wirkte Rendite orientiert und es fehlte eine gewisse "Herzlichkeit" und hat eher den Charakter eines Durchgang

Fantastic service with Candy at check in and throughout. The grounds are beautiful and the staff is really exceptional. However for the price, the hotel is lacking in some amenities that would make it a 5-star stay. Also, everything was about twice the price of what they reasonably should be charging. For example, the burger was USD$45, which as a New Yorker and frequent traveler, is one of the most expensive burgers I’ve ever seen!

Makanda by the Sea is exceptional—pure luxury in paradise. The staff makes every moment magical, and I’m deeply grateful for their warmth and care. Jorge is an outstanding Spanish teacher, patiently guiding me with enthusiasm. Jessica, though new, excels and shines brightly. Alfredo at the front desk is the most helpful person alive—always going above and beyond. Andrew and Joe greet you with genuine smiles that instantly lift your spirits. Alexander bounces around with endless energy and a big “pura vida” smile, handling everything swiftly. Branden takes incredible care of our room, keeping it perfect. Elias at the pool bar is as friendly as can be. Roger, looking like a movie star, pops up everywhere with his infectious smile. Bayran provides excellent driving service. Johnathan and Samuel zip us around effortlessly from beach to pool and beyond. Thank you all—the heart of Makanda. Pura vida!

This place is really nice, it’s not big by any means, but nice. They have a salt water pool with a bar, and another regular pool. They have one restaurant (you can order food to the pool) and the food is amazing. The beach was rough and had a lot of rocks, but they have nice beaches that aren’t far. The employees are mostly nice, a few of them need to be fired, but most are good. The place is on a mountain, so you walk on inclined around the hotel. The spa was terrible, it’s over priced and you will not relax, we left more tense than we went in. You will see monkeys and nice birds on the property, so if you are a fan of wild life you will be happy.

We liked the proximity to the National Park. Food and drinks are overpriced at this property. For the level of hotel should at least offer water in the rooms. Other than that its a nice Hotel, I would recommend it for people coming to Manuel Antonio Park.

Most of the staff was amazing! Roger, Jorge, Jonathan and Elias were all fantastic! The property was very steep and when it was wet it was slick. They do have golf carts to take you around which helped. Bring some ones for tips. The views were outstanding. Monkeys and sloths everywhere. The only complaint is the drink prices are unnecessarily high and we were not impressed with the food from Arbol for the prices they charge. We had an issue with getting park tickets and reception was zero help and didn't upgrade our room with VIP access even though the hotel wasn't full. September is their off season which was nice that it wasn't that busy. Can't say enough about the staff mentioned above. They went above and beyond! Would absolutely stay here again.
