We picked a very busy day to need a bed in Durham as it was the university open weekend. La Spada was reasonably priced & good enough, despite quite a few adverse reviews. The hotel is not set up to take guests after 10pm, a fact not highlighted when we booked at 11.30pm & then tried to get in. Fortunately we were admitted. There was no breakfast service.

Warm welcome and wacky decoration at beautiful townhouse, well situated for university. Inflated prices due to open day not entirely justified - no towels or hand soap in bathroom, limited breakfast choice (only full English, only white toast)

The manager Anna couldn’t have been nicer. She greeted us with a cup of tea and biscuits and allowed us to check-in early and was very helpful with suggestions of things to do in the city. Rooms were comfortable and quiet and included on-site free parking. Location just a short walk into the centre. Breakfast also very good with lots of options.

I was surprised not to have gowns in the bedroom and some of the furniture in our room dated , for a 4 Star hotel the breakfast was lukewarm ,the area and the Hotel is Beautiful, However the Treehouses were amazing !! and the staff very helpful Would go again ,but stay in a treehouse !
