Not only did my daughter feel like she was in a Jane Austin novel; surrounded by high ceilings, tall windows, and gorgeous antique furnishing, but she also READ a Jane Austin novel pulled from one of the many bookshelves. Books lovers will find untold treasures here!
I loved the beautiful wood floors and huge rooms. The window units kept the house very cool and comfortable.
The master bedroom was lovely, with a very comfortable bed! There were plenty of extra sheets and towels all over the house.
The dining room was beautiful and perfect for our family of 11. We simply had to set up the kitchen table right next to the dining room table.
The living room was wonderful for reading or playing games. The den was cozy and great for watching TV or movies. My six-year-old girl was in awe of all the toys and dress up clothes in the children’s room. They all loved the trampoline and the hammocks.
The kitchen was very small. I would suggest bringing extra paper products and any kitchen utensils that you can’t live without. We found apples and eggs waiting for us in the fridge. I had spoken with Wendy prior to our trip, and she arranged for six dozen local farm eggs to be delivered.
Wendy was wonderful! She was happy to give me volumes of information. Communication was a little difficult during our stay because cell service was spotty, even with the WIFI.
We all loved the back porch and patio, with a picturesque view overlooking cow pastures and mountain ridges. We cooked outside on the firepit as often as we could. Once the sun went down, the night sky was a wonder, with more twinkling stars than I could ever see in my neighborhood at home.
The Virginia countryside was stunning! Lexington was a charming town about 30 minutes away (the closest place for food and gas we could find). My oldest daughter loved the Bookery and The Downtown Bookstore. I just adored the Farmers Market on Wednesday morning from 8-12:30am. My husband and I enjoyed a perfect date night at the Southern Inn.
Our older children enjoyed Panther Falls (1 hour away) followed by Todd’s Barbecue in Buena Vista, and swimming and the swinging bridge at Goshen Pass (12 minutes away).
Natural Bridge Sate Park (40 minutes away) was breathtaking, and the majesty can’t be conveyed with a photograph.
We enjoyed our stay!
