RECOMMENDATION: STAY AWAY!
I have never written a bad review, but there is a first for everything and the manager of Apartment Coconut really pushed my buttons. Here's why:
1) No communication upon arrival, even though we wrote several times for check-in instructions the day before and on the day for our stay. We decided to just show up, and luckily we met a staff member on her way home, who was able to let us in (though clearly confused about our booking).
2) We booked Apartment 3:"Great Palm View", but was given Apartment 4: "Quiet studio" (quiet = dark), an according to the booking page much smaller apartment, with a view to the backyard, floating with garbage. Other relevant features include: no hot water, ants in the kitchen, wet toiletpapir and a problem with the toilet flush.
3) We asked the manager when we would be able to move into the apt we payed for. He claimed that we did in fact book Apt 4. I then sent him our receipt for Apt 3, and he switched tactics, asking us why we would want Apt 3, when Apt 4 was in fact bigger and nicer.
4) We told him that the dark studio did not meet our expectations, not only because of the apartment itself, but also because he claims online that Villa Coconut is located a short walk (8 min) from the beach in Samana bay. This is not true, as the distance is 45 min on foot.
Owner understands why we are disappointed, and agrees to pay us back three nights, so we can leave sooner, without paying the full stay. Never saw the money.
