Never stayed

We were contacted by the host ahead of our reservation and were encouraged to cancel the reservation because the host did not want folks from our industry staying at their home. The host never initiated the cancellation and when I emailed to confirm the reservation had been cancelled they told me they didn't do it. Now it's too late to get a refund and we never even stayed at the property! This was unfair treatment and I would like this to be looked into further.
