  • Designed by John S. Norris for General Hugh Weedon Mercer, construction of the house began in 1860. Construction was interrupted by the American Civil War, and finally completed around 1868 by the new owner, John Wilder. Before Hansford's death, as retold in Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, the house had already been the scene of two deaths. In 1913, a previous owner tripped over the second floor banister, fractured his hip, and suffered a concussion, dying three days later. In 1964, a boy chasing pigeons on the roof fell over the edge and impaled himself on the iron fence below.

A liitle difficulty enering premises but sorted in minutes. Well equipped property in great condition. Most sights are walkable but exelent transport options. Lovely house. Would recommend.

Lovely home in a great location. The downside was a neighbor who left her dog alone and the dog cried all evening. In addition, the clothes dryer didn’t function properly which was problematic. The rental management company was very responsive and helpful.

The house is lovely and comfortable. There were four adults and it was perfect. Check-in to check-out was as advertised. My only request would be a larger coffee pot. Would stay again

Lovely stay in Savannah

The unit was beautiful and the location was a quick walk to the bus stop. The beds were comfortable with lovely linens. Two, small issues: A bigger coffee maker would have been great, and we couldn’t find any laundry detergent in the unit.

Collegiate Event

Our first trip to Savannah! Great location! We could walk to Forsythe Park and around the historic district. Listing was accurate. Beds were comfortable and had everything we needed. Rental company was great! Would definitely recommend and will stay here when we visit Savannah.

Family vacation

We enjoyed our stay. We were able to walk to most locations we wanted to see. If you plan to use the washer/dryer i would suggest you make sure it has been replaced. Dryer would not dry. The air conditioner was not cooling very well. The staff was very responsive and sent repair person. They also brought fans to help cool things off. Overall it was a very good trip and the home was charming and comfortable.

We had a wonderful stay. The property was clean and spacious. The location was awesome. The neighborhood was quiet. Easy to walk places and attractions in the historic district. Very comfortable. We had a blast!

Great location on the south side of Forsyth park. It's not a whole house but just the bottom floor but very nice and spacious.

Beautiful Space and Great Location

We loved how close this location was to Forsyth Park and appreciated the quiet neighborhood. There was unhinged air vent which was not an issue for us but the absence of a vacuum made things a bit challenging, especially with a 1-year-old. Overall, we had a great experience and were impressed by the decor and cleanliness of the space.

Great Place and Location

The house is very clean and beds are comfortable. Front porch was great to sit on. The kitchen had only the basics. Location was great we could walk everywhere we wanted to go! Communication was spot on. Welcome text, checked in to make sure all was good. Check out text as well.

Excellent house while visiting Savannah

We enjoyed our 3 day stay at this property in December. Location was excellent, across from Forsyth Park and walking distance to the hop on/hop off trolley so no need to move our rental car. Everything was available in the house we needed. Loved the southern charm. Only struggled with the lock system, better directions on how to use it would have helped. Would definitely stay here again. Thank you!

Perfectly placed

A charming property with room for the family. Coffee shops in walking distance, a great small grocery store aswell. Nice outdoor space for relaxing at the property. We also had a great day on Tybee Island making use of the pool/beach access.

Historic Savannah Dreams

The ceiling height, the front porch, the screened in back porch, the historic home, the location right on Forsyth within walking distance of all the best restaurants, but far enough removed from the often times annoying tourist trap areas (that you can get to just 1 mile away when you want to go there), thankfully. Everything was perfect. Would love to stay here again as soon as possible.

Holiday Getaway

House was beautifully decorated, spacious and clean. Videos were helpful and answered all of our questions. Perfect location to take a stroll through Forsyth Park. Near lots of restaurants and shops. The only thing I would say is that the location is at the opposite end of the park as the map shows. Which would be the East Victorian District. Everything else was spot on and wonderful. We would definitely stay here again.

Fabulous stay!!

My husband and I spent time here for our anniversary. The home is simply beautiful and the location is perfect. Its close enough to everything but away from the chaos of the downtown area. We brought our bikes with us and were able to ride to everything. The home was clean and had plenty of character. Definitely will be back again!
