SUNRISE SUNSET RETREAT, 4BD/4BA - This is authentic Costa Rica with spectacular views and primal forests. Breathtaking 100-mile views from the coast ridge above Playa Matapalo and Dominical. Ideal for couples, families and low monthly rates for nomads. Infinity pool, good Wi-Fi, full kitchen, dining, work areas, washing machine. Watch toucans, monkeys and sloth. Listen to the surf at night! Just 15 minutes from restaurants, beaches and stores. The nearest neighbor is a boutique hotel about 1km further on the road. There are grocery stores in nearby towns - Quepos, Dominical and Uvita.

The immediate area is loaded with beaches, numerous adventure activities (surfing, snorkeling, fishing, zip lines, white river rafting, sailing, ATV rides), national parks (Manuel Antonio National Park, Corcovado National Park), primal forests and so much more! Our management team can book tours and AWD rentals for you.

There are no other rental groups during your stay. Privacy and quiet on 3 private acres. All natural energy and mountain spring water from the tap. At 1500 foot elevation, enjoy much cooler temperatures compared to humid coastal towns. Ask about long term discounts (over 60 days). Access: 4x4 on county-maintained gravel/dirt road, ~3 miles from coastal highway

ACCESS: As one guest put it, the dirt and gravel road is "bumpy but beautiful, through lush tropical forests and vistas". The road ascends 1500 feet to the mountain ridge. For steep and rough spots, reserve a good 4x4 with high clearance, such as Toyota Prada, Nissan Patrol, Mitsubishi Montero. These are readily available at affordable rates. Reserve in advance.

HELP WITH YOUR STAY: Our property manager at Blue Mountain will contact you and arrange your arrival. They can also handle all your travel needs. They will escort you to the property if you have a car (no charge). If you prefer not to drive, we can arrange for shuttle service to/from the house (extra fee applies).

A separate unit behind the house, with its own kitchen/bathroom, is seasonally used by onsite manager to care for this large property. If you need ‘total privacy’ on the grounds during your vacation stay, please let us know at the time of booking.

This house is amazing! Pool is great and the view is spectacular. Communication with the host was great and always prompt. The beach at Matapalo is stunning and virtually free of any other beach goers. They mean what they say about needing a 4x4 vehicle to make it to the house. The road is quite steep and rocky/dirt.

Everything here was fabulous, as soon as we hit that road we knew our view and our privacy were going to be exactly what we wanted. Nothing was lacking. We were surprised that others made comments about the road, no cross ditches, no potholes, just one little creek and this was after heavy rains (thinking those comments came from parking lot princesses lol). Oh...the view from the pool is spectacular

Heaven on Earth

Stayed here for three nights. Walked around the entire property. Enjoyed a very well groomed garden with variety of tropical fruits. Prepared food with ease. Slept comfortably without AC. The road is bad but I have experience a lot worse. Ensure you just have a 4x4 with enough clearance. We used an FJ Cruiser and it was more than enough. The owner and local hosts are great and can give you advice on your stay. Definitely coming back!

Beautiful view

The house and property were great for our group as there is a lot of room for everyone to do their own thing. The views and quiet were amazing! So many birds! The property was fun to explore and we enjoyed starfruit and bananas we picked ourselves.The road to the house can be challenging for someone new to driving up a mountain. I highly recommend a mid to large 4 x 4 with good clearance. The property manager, Jonathan, was so great to deal with. He was very kind and considerate and promptly looked after any requests or needs we had. There are no lawn chairs or beach chairs so I bought some and sold them before we left.**NOTE: I had a very difficult incident with a woman who lives up the road from the house while on a walk. I did not trespass, stayed on the main road and was minding my own business. If you’re into hiking/walking/exploring, I would request clarification from the owner as to where one is authorized to walk**

Beautiful View!

This beautifully situated house in the hills above Matapalo is generally clean and functional. The pool is very nice and the kitchen is modern but without a dishwasher. The washing machine was not functional and the dryer is not accessible for guest use. The property manager, Jhonnathan, was very helpful in a number of ways and helped us book a fantastic fishing trip. The biggest problem was the road, which was in very poor condition and difficult to drive safely even with a 4 x 4, esp. when it rains.

Incredible view, beautiful house and scenery. Great pool. There is Filtered water. Very remote- it takes roughly one hour to drive from house to quepos marina or Manuel Antonio. The road up the mountain is an adventure- about 20 minutes one way. Very steep. No AC- it cools to about 70F plus or minus a few degrees at night with fans. Nice owner and staff.

Un vrai désastre/real mess

En partant, l’annonce est erronée. Elle indique que le prix inclu petit déjeuner, mais c’est faux. Ellle demande d’avoir un 4x4 pour accéder le logement, mais je vous dis honnêtement, ça prend un cascadeur, quelqu’un qui aime l’adrénaline, un aventurier pour aller là bas. Imagine passer exactement 25mn sous la pluie dans une route sinueuse, rocailleuse, glissante où l’on traverse cours d’eau, riverain. C’est déconseillé sur toute la ligne. Belle piscine, mais insécure, on peut tomber facilement du falaise. Pas du tout reposant pour une famille. Reptile partout. Imagine leur cri la nuit. Une vraie bluffe!!! Tout ce qui compte pour la propriétaire, c’est d’être bien noté sur Vrbo. Votre sécurité importe peu. C’est pas sans raison qu’elle ne donne pas la possibilité d’annuler le séjour. Elle joue beaucoup sur les mots. Elle pourra vous dire que c’était bien indiqué sur le site… mais je vous dis ce qui est vrai et j’ai des vidéos. La route est dangereuse, n’amenez pas votre famille. Comme suggestion, elle propose un chauffeur à 60$usd par trajet, imagine, à 15h il commence déjà à faire noir et il pleut quasiment à tous les jours. C’est une vrai prison en apparence luxueux. On voit à peine la mer, méfiez-vous!

Beautiful house and view

The view from the house is even more beautiful in person. The check-in process was great. There are tons of fruit trees all over the property. We saw lots of wildlife and very much enjoyed the pool. For sure need a 4x4 for the trek up the mountain. It was not too bad as long as it wasn’t muddy (but still not too bad). I definitely recommend this house and would stay here again.

Family Vacation

Most definitely rent a 4x4. Takes a couple of days to get use to the drive up but the view is worth it! Lots of tours close by, which I loved! Surfing, rafting and zip lining are a must!

Stunning view with open space for large family

The view was fantastic and the open areas allowed family to gather or separate into their rooms. Recommendation to get a high clearance 4x4 especially in rainy sesson august due to road up to the house. Close to the beach, Uvita Whale Tale and such. The house is located in the forest area so expect critters to visit and frogs at night.

Paradise!

We had a wonderful time! Our family spent 4 weeks at this wonderful house. The view is amazing. The jungle is wonderful. The beach is wonderful. The people are wonderful. It is very secluded. A person certainly needs four wheel drive to stay here, but it is worth it. A person is 15 minutes from the beach at Playa Matapalo (good for wading, walking, and fishing, not for surfing or swimming). There is also a wonderful ice cream shop about 15 minutes away. Dominical is only about 20-25 minutes away with fun shops and great fishing and surfing (also has organic/gf foods if a person has special dietary needs). Quepos is only about 45 minutes away and is a larger city if people have more needs. A million things to do in the area. Some cost money, some do not. The property owner and the property manager are very attentive to people’s requests and concerns. Any questions about the property, safety, culture or anything a person may not understand, they are more than willing to help with. The cultural climate of Costa Rica is relaxed (NOT lazy). The term “Pura Vida” certainly applies to this house as well as this country. We would absolutely stay again!!!!

Beautiful stay

We had a lovely stay up in the mountains. The view is breathtaking, the pictures don’t do it justice. When you’re up above the clouds your problems will melt away. We were sad to leave, but excited to come back. The host was very accommodating to our needs, and helped us have the best stay possible.

My husband and I rented this property for a getaway. We were a group of 5 adults. We enjoyed our stay very much. The view from the property was amazing and we loved being surrounded by nature! We did have to wait quite a while to pick up the keys, as the person who was supposed to give us the keys kept us waiting on the road. The house and cabin were very clean and the beds comfortable. The refrigerator of the house was not working well, so we had to use the small refrigerator from the cabin. This was a bit inconvenient. Overall, the wonderful location "away from it all", the clean house, and gorgeous views made up for the minor issues. As long as you have a 4x4 and an adventurous driver, you will be fine on the road. We would definitely recommend this property.

Breathe in the natural setting of Costa Rica

This was our first visit to Costa Rica and was a combination of family reunion and exploration. Our host was so very helpful in giving suggestions and advising us accordingly. Our mountain retreat gave us the flavor of the costa rica natural habitat with its breathtaking view from the infinity pool (which we used alot) and the rising and falling sounds of the jungle. The road up to the property definately requires a four wheel drive vehicle which our host was very clear about. It was lovely to go to the beach etc and come back to the natural environment that was cooler than down by the ocean.

Jungle villa overlooking the Pacific

The photos do not do the vista justice-an open air panorama of mountains, jungle, and the Pacific from an elevation of 1500 feet. A spectacular view from an infinity pool awaits you every day. This place is all solar, off the grid. It takes 20-25 minutes to drive there off the main road. Four wheel drive is an absolute necessity. When you arrive, you’ll be greeted dogs, cats, and chickens. The place is modern and well laid out. You cannot see or hear neighbors except for an occasional person driving by. We stayed for two weeks and missed the solitude the day we left. The owner was not there during our stay. So, except for occasional visits by the caretakers, we were alone. It was a great experience.

3 Miles to Paradise

Spectacular view await. Once you turn off the coastal highway, it is a three mile climb up the ridge to a little piece of paradise. Zoltan and the goats meet you at the retreat surrounded by the fruit trees he has planted. The picture of the property on the website shows the infinity pool and the view of the ocean in the large indoor/outdoor space which is the "living room" for the property. We stayed in the "cabina", a charming and rustic structure immediately adjoining the main house. The breezes thru the shutters cooled us as at night as we listened to the birds and the howler monkeys. Zoltan cooked us a fish dinner one night, delicious! We enjoyed day trips to the Manuel Antonio Park (not to be missed!), and wonderful black sand beach. Highly recommended for a relaxing stay surrounded by nature.

Good vacation stay for those looking to get away from the crowds.

The pictures do the views justice. Amazing sunrises starting at 5:30am and overall stunning vistas of the Pacific Ocean, mountains etc. Pay close attention to the suggestion about needing a good 4X4 as the road up to the house is NOT for the weak of heart. Would definitely recommend only renting a PREMIUM 4X4 to be sure. Overall the place is very secluded when on the property so gives a good feel for Costa Rican biodiversity and nature.....cicadas, frogs, monkeys all around! Sleeping arrangements are good and separate from the shared main area. Dedicated kitchen area for guests is apart from shared areas and clean but a little underequipped. We did not take advantage of private tours or personal services but enjoyed the areas close to Savegre very much. Dominical beach was good for intermediate surfing and only 35 minutes away. Coastal highway is amazing ride down to Osa Peninsula with amazing views all around. Overall, our family of 5 enjoyed our experience.

Secluded jungle getaway with incredible views

Our stay at this property was great. The view from the pool area is breathtaking and provides gorgeous sunrises. It was very cool to see the various gardens, chickens, goats, etc. on the property. The drive up the hill is a bit further and rockier than expected but for a few days it wasn't that bad. We would leave for the day and just make sure to have everything needed before returning for the evening. This is very much a jungle retreat with open air kitchen. There are many bugs considering it is in the middle of the jungle but they were actually less than I expected. Zoltan provided some interesting conversation and recommendations for areas to go see. He cooked a delicious dinner for us one night using some ingredients that were growing among his gardens.

The views are amazing.. The property has everything you would need. However the drive to the property does require a 4x4 and is best driven in day light

Beautiful stay on top of the world!

We had a wonderful stay at Zoltan's mountain-top retreat. The vista was absolutely gorgeous and Zoltan was very friendly, giving us some fruits from the property to try and showing us some local places to go. Loved the dogs and other friendly animals on the property too! Driving up the mountain is not for the faint of heart; rent the best SUV you can and you should be fine. Keep in mind the property is solar-powered so the water can be a bit cold at times, but the hot weather more than makes up for this! If you don't mind the 20 minute drive up and down the mountain, there's tons of hikes and beautiful beaches nearby, which we took advantage of each day for the 2 weeks we were there. Would definitely recommend staying here!
