Fragokastello Castle itself is a living piece of history, offering a window into a vibrant and revolutionary past. The castle's remains closely resemble its appearance when it was originally constructed in 1371. Above the main entrance, you'll find a sculpted slate with the Lion of Saint Mark and two Venetian feudal coat of arms.



The views of the majestic White Mountains are simply breathtaking and beckon you to embark on daily excursions. The European Hiking Footpath (E4) passes through Fragokastello, meandering through the enchanting Imbros Gorge and traversing the Kalikratis Gorge, both of which are easily accessible for exploration and hiking.

According to local legend, every year, on the anniversary of the Battle of Fragokastello (4-6 June), at dawn, a long procession of apparitions can be witnessed. Figures armed with weapons, pedestrians, and horse riders march from the church of Saint Charalambos toward the fort. This phenomenon occurs when the sea is calm and there is moisture in the atmosphere, lasting approximately 10 minutes. The figures reach the sea and vanish into it as the first rays of the sun appear. These apparitions are known as Drosoulites.
