Great location, but outdated and inflexible

A relatively good deal in a great location - 5 min walk to Black Sand Beach. The partial views were beautiful, could hear the ocean from the deck. The house is nice and cozy, but it does need some love I.e. Carpet worn, old appliances, deck needs to be stained etc. It would have been nice if they provided some complimentary coffee. The check out time was early (10am) and they were unwilling to accommodate a late check out request.

The Coast is cool.

The house is in a beautiful setting. However, be prepared for a rather long drive in on a somewhat hazardous 2-lane road. The local restaurants are open sporadically, what there is available. Good challenging hiking nearby and at the Sinkyone Wilderness Area. Be prepared for cool temperatures and coastal fog and marine layer clouds. The Humboldt Redwoods State Park and the Avenue of the Giants is fairly close by also. If you need wifi and reliable cell coverage, be advised: bring a few good books and enjoy being pretty much off the grid for a few quiet (electronically speaking) days. The house itself is quite comfortable and well equipped. The local mice don't make too much noise during the night and deer frequently browse the local lawns in the mornings. All in all: a great stay.
