"Very spacious, lovely modern decor, so you get both a lovely 5 star stay but being able to enjoy the old town once you step out. Staff are friendly, able to tell you what are open for the night on a map (as it was a public holiday when we went). The breakfast is also worth it (just 1000yen pp?), not the type with luxurious ingredients but it was all nicely laid out and a very comfy cafe which you can easily spend half a morning there."

Candeo Hotels Matsuyama Okaido

"Right in the heart of Matsuyama. The location can not be beat. You are steps away from the Okaido shopping center. The rail tram to Dogo Onsen or the JR train station is right in front of the hotel. The entrance to Ropeway street with numerous shops and restaurants and the Ropeway to Matsuyama Castle is right across the street. In addition, there are excellent restaurants in the side streets adjacent to the hotel. The public bath with an outdoor area is a great addition. The only negative is lack of on site parking. There is reasonable parking about 3 blocks away. It would have been ok if not for the rain storm that occurred right as we checked in so we go drenched walking from garage to hotel. If you're traveling on Shikoku, a car is almost a necessity unless you are only visiting Matsuyama. One note, the garage is only 800 yen per day but they only take cash so be prepared. Over"

JR Clement Inn Kochi

10/10 Excellent

"Only spent one night here on the way to the Iya Valley. JR Clement is an excellent hotel located right next to the JR Station. Clients were mostly Japanese businessman which was nice as it seemed we were the only tourist so it was very quiet. Hotel was very clean and seemed very new. On site parking. A Family Mart right across the street. Excellent amenities even by Japanese hotel standards, war plugs, shoe deodorizer,mints bath salts, facial creams and washers along with the usuals found in most Japanese hotels. I highly recommend this place if you're in Kochi."
