  • Above the entrance to the passage at Newgrange there is an opening called a roof-box. Its purpose is to allow sunlight to penetrate the passage and chamber at sunrise around the Winter Solstice. At 8:58am a narrow beam of light penetrates the roof-box and reaches the floor of the chamber, gradually extending to the rear of the passage. As the sun rises higher, the beam widens within the chamber so that the whole room becomes dramatically illuminated. After 17 minutes the sunbeam leaves the chamber and retreats back down the passage.

Property and host were great! For our family of three it was a perfect stay. My daughter (4) loved the loft bed especially and we were very cozy in the cottage unit. We only wished we could stay longer to explore the area and relax on the grounds.

Fisherman's cottage

The cottage is a converted farm building with an eclectic collection of furniture which proved quirky but comfortable and our host was very friendly and welcoming. We thoroughly enjoyed our few days there. The steps up to the mezzanine bedroom are quite steep and narrow so may not be suitable for anyone with mobility issues but our adult son had no problems

Perfect country stay

This property is a great country retreat. Ducks come visit you in the morning, the tire swing is so much fun, and views of the river and landscape are breathtaking. The owner is friendly and very accommodating. The property is only a handful of minutes away from Newgrange, Funtasia, Emerald Park, and Drogheda. It's so handy to have a full kitchen and washing machine.
