After staying numerous times while visiting SLT at a pricier hotel just around the corner, we decided to give the more reasonably priced Desolation Hotel a try. For a couple of nights earlier this week we stayed in one of the ‘Townhouse’ rooms. It was great. The room was spread over three floors, garage, living & bedroom. There are two decks, one with an outdoor dining table, the other with a soaking tub, a fully equipped kitchen, 1.5 bathrooms, two fireplaces and a proper garage. The hotel is close to the beach & Heavenly Village. If you’re looking for a nice place to stay & are willing to forgo some of a larger resorts amenities - large public areas, resort fees, parking charges etc., this is ideal. It’s like your own vacation home. The hotel has a good restaurant, Maggie’s, a pool & spa etc. Checkin was pleasant & efficient and included a complimentary bottle of wine. My only ‘complaint’ would concern the slightly marginal motels that are scattered throughout the neighborhood. Other than that it was great and we would certainly recommend it and will return.

Fun Winter Excursion

Beautiful room. Had neighbors on the sides and above us, but we never heard a peep. There were robes and slippers, complimentary bottle of champagne, heated floors in the bathroom. Fully functional kitchen. Ample outlets and chargers for all our devices. My son was OBSESSED with the tornado fireplace. Parking lot was never crowded. Tesla charger worked great. Maggie’s (on site dining) was wonderful. We had dinner and breakfast there. Staff is great with kids. Gym was fine. Not a lot of weightlifting options, but great for cardio and free weights for the basics. Didn’t get a chance to use the sauna or heated pools but they looked nice. Hotel is located in the middle of downtown south Tahoe. We walked to all the shops, casinos, gondolas, etc. quite the fun winter experience. Well definitely be back.

Picked this place for my 25 year wedding anniversary wanted something special didn’t mind a higher price because it looked spectacular online. It was much smaller of a place in person than the description/pictures, online, the room was very nice, although not as clean as I would have wanted it to be that I could overlook. However, the outdoor bathtub had not been cleaned at all a few things like the stopper in both indoor and outdoor tub were not in proper working order I fixed it and cleaned it myself lol the stove top only works with their appliances, good to know now and it had a convection oven/microwave which the microwave didn’t work. I was frustrated. The hotel did make that right they gave me a discount for my stay. The things I love the most was the electric kettle and fireplaces. The surrounding area is not very nice your balcony overlooks apartments, and trashy, hotels,it looks like they made a really nice space in the middle of a not so nice neighborhood, but the price of this room with taxes and fees for three nights was $1910. I knew it wasn’t going to have a view, but I was hoping it would have been better than that. Oh yeah and it’s wide open and I literally ran face-to-face into a bear in the hallway scare the crap out of me. That’s nothing against the hotel of course just something crazy that happened. All said and done I don’t know that I would stay here again unless they reduce their prices heavily. I did like it. I was happy with my stay.
