"Excellent hotel"

"Parking is first come first served. We had no issue. We did go around twice as we missed the entrance. Room was clean and comfortable. We would have liked a firmer mattress. Loved the wonky bits of the building. Breakfast was lovely. Good choice of everything and we asked if we wanted more. Great atmosphere in the bar, seems popular with locals. All staff were very friendly and chatty. "

"We had a lovely 3 night stay at Wallhope Retreat with our 7 year old son and our dog. It was a great location, great views and walks straight from the door. The onsite milk vending and ice-cream were amazing! The only thing that would have made it better for our circumstances were that the garden to the front had a fence but wasn't enclosed so we couldn't get our dog off her lead in it in case she ran down the steep embankment into the below field (she's a spaniel and has a total mind of her own at times!) and because she will only go for a wee on grass, it made going to the toilet late/early on a bit of a chore. This would have been resolved by adding some chicken wire to the lower part of the fence to enclose it but I appreciate that this may not bother every guest. Sadly the weather was very rainy so we didn't get to use the hot tub in the end but the views were gorgeous. Sarah was very contactable with any issues and very welcoming. Overall, just a great break away from it all."

"Our hosts were great, fabulous directions and early communication. Lovely welcome pack with effort made to have things made specifically for the place. All the amenities you could want. Bed was very comfy with lovely linens. Such a really fabulous romantic sanctuary, hidden away in beds of snowdrops, but within easy reach of everything you need. Great log burner, which really warms the place, with all the original features of a characterful property. "

"We had a great time staying in the cottage and found it nice and clean. Nothing really to detract from our Christmas. Log fire was perfect. Location of the house is ideal for trips to the Brecons and into the Wye valley area. 15mins to Tintern Abbey and some excellent dog walking areas. Garden isn't totally secure if you have a houdini dog like ours but it's a big space for them to explore on a long lead. Helen was available if we needed anything and has a ready supply of logs for the fire. "

"Sadly this property needs huge investment. The whole place is really tired. There was no on there to welcome us and they hadn’t sent us the door code so I had to phone twice before someone would pick up and then had to wait for the owner to arrive to let us in, not ideal after a long journey. We had a garden room - which had thread bare carpets with stains on, the most uncomfortable bed imaginable and it just felt dirty. I thought from the pictures this place looked ok, but I was very wrong indeed. They really need to invest as it could be lovely - it’s a great location. "
