Solbacka - Holiday home on Öland in Sweden, close to animals and nature
To the east of Solbacka, the vast Alvar stretches as far as the eye can see. This unique limestone plateau covers large parts of Öland, especially in the south. The landscape is open and rugged, with thin layers of soil that nurture a distinctive flora and fauna. Grazing animals roam freely, rare plants thrive, and the birdlife is rich. Alvaret is part of the UNESCO-listed World Heritage agricultural landscape of Southern Öland, offering a one-of-a-kind nature experience.
To the west, the sea and the Kalmar Strait unfold, with the mainland visible in the distance. The area around Solbacka boasts lovely walking trails and exciting spots to explore. Just a few meters to the north, you'll find Mysinge hög, the highest point on Öland, offering stunning panoramic views.
Solbacka itself is surrounded by a spacious lawn, where apple, pear, and plum trees grow. Wild rabbits dart across the grass, butterflies flutter in the breeze, and birds fill the air with their song. Icelandic horses pass by daily on Alvaret, adding to the serene and picturesque setting.
Stepping into the house, you're welcomed by a charming glass veranda and a cozy hallway. From the hall, you can either enter the main bedroom or turn right into the living room, which leads to the kitchen, where the window overlooks Alvaret. The morning sun rises over the open landscape to the east, while in the evening, golden light streams through the living room and veranda windows, illuminating the sea to the west. Breakfast can be enjoyed in the living room with a view of the water, while the evenings offer breathtaking sunsets. Upstairs, there are two more bedrooms – one directly at the top of the stairs and another further in. A hatch in the hallway leads down to the spacious cellar, once used for food storage.
The house has an incinerator toilet and a well that provides clean and fresh Öland drinking water. If you ever wish, there is access to a modern bathroom down at the farm across the road. Here, you can also bring food scraps, feed the pigs, and visit the other animals on the farm.
Solbacka is a peaceful haven where you can unwind, enjoy the Öland countryside, and experience genuine rural life up close.
