Egmont National Park is nestled on the slopes of Mount Taranaki, which is a dormant volcano on the western side of New Zealand's North Island. Even though Taranaki region is easily accessible, most tourists ignore it as it is on a path less traveled. It is a shame as Egmont National Park has beautiful scenery, lush temperate rainforest vegetation and this gorgeous waterfall known as the Dawson Falls! The hike to the waterfall is short but with some steep steps, and the view point above is even more easily reached. If you're traveling in the North Island, Egmont National Park is well worth a visit!
New Zealand State Highway 43 is also known as the Forgotten World Highway. Built on colonial horse trails formed in the late 19th century, the highway is remote and mysterious. The highway spans 149 km between Stratford and Taumarunui. There are hardly any services along the highway, and no gas pumps, but the views along the road as it climbs up and down three different mountain saddles are amazing!
