Peruvudaiyar Aalayam, Big Temple (locally known as "Thanjai Periya Kovil") is a Hindu temple dedicated to Shiva located in Thanjavur in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is also known as RajaRajeswara Temple Rajarajeswaram and Peruvudayar Temple. It is one of the largest temples in India and is an example of Dravidian architecture during the Chola period. Built by Raja Raja Chola I and completed in 1010 CE, the temple turned 1000 years old . The temple is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site known as the "Great Living Chola Temples", with the other two being the Peruvudaiyar Temple, Gangaikonda Cholapuram and Airavatesvara temple. The temple stands amidst fortified walls that were probably added in the 16th century. The vimanam (temple tower) is 198 ft (60 m) high and is one of the tallest in the world. The Kumbam (the apex or the bulbous structure on the top) weighs around 80 tons.There is a big statue of Nandi (sacred bull), carved out of a single rock measuring about 16 ft (4.9 m) long and 13 ft (4.0 m) high at the entrance.[ The entire temple structure is made out of granite, the nearest sources of which are about 60 km to the west of temple. The temple is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Tamil Nadu.

Rooms are smelly . The bed linen are yellow . Pillows are very dirty. We changed the linen and the actual Pillow were very dirty . You simply can’t put new linen to hide the stains and dirty pillows inside actually. The breakfast had very limited options .

Don’t come in with high expectations

Our stay was quite average, below the expectations we were looking for. We were charged additionally for breakfast when we initially had booked with that service. The staff does not take international cards and none of this is mentioned prior to checking in. The food was very mid, and not very good. Would not recommend. The hotel is new so was quite clean and spacious room. Only thing would be to bring some warm clothes as the room gets quite cold with the AC on! Overall was a underwhelming experience.

They do not except international credit cards yet they are listed with international vendors. They were not willing to cancel my rooms and rebook paying thru Expedia. It was 10pm and we were exhausted so we paid in cash. No hand towels in room. Less than 1/4 roll toilet paper. Overpriced at 8300 rupees. Room smelled like mildew. Not happy.

Need.to improve their parking slot arrangement, there are multiple shops nearby and a single common parking is available. So there is no priority parking and secirity guards are have no planning to arrange the cars
