I booked the hotel with Expedia from Apr. 26 to 28. When I drove with my family (kids 4, 9) to Hague at night Apr. 26, I never expected the city centre was locked, I can't drive inside the city because of the King's Day on Apr. 27.
I drove around the city centre area and finally found a temporary street parking at 10pm, located about 1 mile away and walked to the hotel. There are two male persons in the front desk, one in his 20s and the other in 50s. The front desk persons told me no way to park the car nearby. All the garage in the city centre were closed.
Then I requested to cancel my booking. Obviously it was impossible for me to take my wife and two sons walk more than 1 mile at night in an unfamiliar city, with luggages. The front desk persons showed their understanding and agreed to help me cancel the booking. But I need to call Expedia to cancel. There's no way they can do it.
I called Expedia around 11pm, explained my situation, and asked to cancel the hotel. Two days later I got an email said my cancellation request had been declined. Because I can't give the name of the front desk persons on Apr. 26 night.
The hotel did NOT notify me anything about the King's Day information, and did NOT send me even an email about the situation in the city. The hotel did NOT let me know the garage was scheduled to close on that day.
