The environment was incredible; Crystal Mountain Resort was amazing and I would definitely return to the resort. The house was a different story. While the outside fire pit was wonderful and the kitchen was good and well equipped, there were other issues. The floating stairs going to the basement did not have handrails; per building code and for safety reasons, they should have been installed. The beds were merely mattresses on boards (no box springs) and were uncomfortable; the bunk beds were 6 inches off the ground and were extremely difficult to get in and out of. The bathrooms all have the tiny, round toilets popular in the 1960’s. The showers, when wet, were very slippery and we constantly feared falling. There was no air conditioning; the afternoons were warm so we opened the windows. However, a couple of the front windows were missing cranks and we could not open them thus preventing cross-ventilation. No fans were provided. The yard had tall mulch piles (5-6 feet tall) that were a fire hazard. The house advertised an iron, ironing board, and hair dryer but they were not available; Vacasa DID supply those by the end of the second day. The house listing indicated there was a coin operated washer and dryer. We came to realize that was mis-leading; the resort building has a single washer and dryer on the second floor that we could use.
