Beautiful and secluded north woods lodge

The beautiful tree-lined road leading to Otter Cove lets you know you are going somewhere special. The lodge is majestic yet warm and inviting, spacious yet cozy. Beautiful fieldstone fireplace, gourmet open kitchen for group meal prep, huge dining table, wonderful sleeping accommodations, and cute kid-friendly touches. Beautiful and serene views of the lake. Would love to go back and experience in the summer as well.

Perfect location

The house furnishings are high quality with a well stocked kitchen (pots, pans, utensils). The house is located on a quiet cove with a shallow entry. Our kids were able to use the kayaks and boat along the shore line, easily getting themselves in and out. Lots of outdoor seating options. We enjoyed coffee on the deck, lunch on the patio, fire around the firepit at night. Plenty of bath towels and extra blankets. We brought our own beach towels, needed to buy extra dish soap, toilet paper and paper towels. The road in front of the driveway is smooth and great for running. We brought motorized boats and spent the week tubing and fishing. The lake never felt crowded. Great week with ages spanning 1-65- everyone had a good time!

House was spacious and comfortable. Plenty of beds and room will keep 12 easily. Could have been somewhat cleaner and no real cleaning supplies. Dealt with VACASA over a small detail and it was taken care of promptly and courteously. Great access to the lake systems w rented pontoon. Great overall experience.

A Week in Otter Cove

Our family had a wonderful time at the Otter Cove Estate. The home is spacious and well thought out for a gathering. The great room and kitchen allow the cooks room to prepare meals while other guests can relax and interact all together. The bedrooms are good size and well equipped. The grounds are beautiful and make guests feel as though the home is in a private setting. The lake access is a gentle slope from home and two piers make docking easy. The chain of lakes is great! Long Lake is a but quieter than the other bigger lakes but spacious enough to fish, cruise, or ski without interference. A sandbar (party-sand-bar) is a 6 minute pontoon ride away and gas to refill the boat around 10-12 minute boat ride. The local property manager was great to deal with and attentive to a few concerns (minor) that arose. She was quick to return a call/text and very informative. I highly recommend this property to large families looking for a roomy, higher-end home with great chain of lake access. We would love to return to the Otter Cove next year! (see below). The remaining review is relative to Vacasa and NOT Otter Cove. This is our second time renting through Vacasa. Each time we've rented, we were impressed with the house and decided to return the following year early in our visit. Each time, however, we were sent a message from Vacasa that to rent the same house during the same week the following year the price would be $4000 more than the current year. I complained to Vacasa the first time this happened to us and the complaint fell upon deaf ears. Apparently Vacasa has an algorithm to set prices and the program attempts to get current guests to re-book at a MUCH higher rate. I have not found this to be the case when one books through VRBO where you likely interact with the owner of the home directly. The home owners on VRBO are likely to re-book at a similar rate as they don't use a computer program to assess demand but would rather secure a booking for a returning guest a year in advance. For this reason alone, we are likely moving along to a different house next year. We would have re-booked on site at the end of our week should rates have not fluctuated so drastically. Vacasa must be good for owners but not so much for returning guests....

Great location ,home has everything one needs

Loved the stay. Some issues while we stayed- Washer didn't work, The wall mounted animal head fell down-was poorly anchored to the wall. Other than that was a amazing house had everything you need in a vacation home.

Snowmobile trip

Heat was not on when we got there, problem resolved within a couple hours. Shortage of toilet paper good thing we brought some of our own. House is beautiful. Lots of room, entertainment in the basement was awesome. Brian helped by plowing the driveway across the street for extra parking. Great time was had by all. Thank you

Beautiful setting, large house

The best part of the house is the outside! The view from the dock, quiet spot on the lake, firepit area. The kids loved fishing off the dock. It was a great place to tie up our boat. It is the first rental we were able to leave our boat out overnight without it getting banged around by waves. The kids loved trying out the kayaks and some of the other water toys they had available. It was a great place to play in the water. The playset was also a hit. The house was huge. There were plenty of beds and sleeping options. It had a great up north cabin feel. There were tons of games in the basement. Another hit with the kids. When we booked the house there was a limit of 8 people. I'm not sure if this was due to COVID-19, but the listing was not clear on the exact number of bedrooms and beds. It actually had 6 bedrooms and slept 21. I noticed many reviews talked about multiple families staying. The cabin would be ideal for that. It was almost too big for our family of 5. We have young kids who didn't want to be on a separate floor from us, so we all stayed on the main floor. There were 3 bedrooms and 8 beds so there was plenty of space, but only one bathroom on the main floor. That wasn't convenient. The only bath was upstairs in the master bedroom. Something to keep in mind if you need to bathe young children. The house was likely top of the line when it was built, but there were issues. The screen door to the deck was useable, but broken (and appeared to have been that way for a while.) The kitchen was dated. One of the oven doors did not close all the way and didn't seem safe to use. The stove was confusing to use and took forever to heat anything up. The washing machine was broken. Someone came out and worked on it, but it still only worked on one setting, so we could only wash towels in it. The kitchen was huge, but somehow had only one pot to cook with. And many of the consumables I would expect to be provided were not. There were no tissues. Only one travel size dish soap was provided so we needed to go to the store to buy more. Only 4 dishwashing tablets were provided which we made do with, but were unable to run the dishwasher the day we left. And we had just enough toilet paper, but had to go to the other bathrooms and take the extra rolls from there to get to the end of the week. Overall it really was a nice house. But the little things added up. I would consider staying again if we rented with extended family.

Very Poor check in and customer service

We have been going to the north woods for over 30 years and therefore have stayed at a variety of places over the years. This was the first time that we had ever had such a negative experience during a trip. We arrived to the home at 4:05pm (checkin at 4pm) to find vehicles parked in the driveway. No one came out and we had received no phone call to tell us anything different than the 4 pm checkin. After calling vacasa they confirmed our correct Reservation time and recommended we knock on the door. After knocking, a female housekeeper answered the door. She did not apologize or explain the situation as to why the house was not ready. I had to say we are here to checkin. She told us that the house wasn’t clean and when asked she said she couldn’t give us a time for when they would be done. “She said hopefully in an hour, but I cant really say.” She was very rude overall. She stated we could use the outside while they finish. However this was extremely unhelpful considering we had just traveled almost 4 hours with small children who needed to use the restroom. We decided to leave and went to Three Lakes. We came back at 5:30pm and they were gone at this point. We came to find out that this situation was potentially due to the last group leaving late. I can understand that they do not have control of previous guests behavior, however recognizing the problem, calling to tell us ahead of time, and reconciling for our lost time and inconvenience would have gone a long way. None of which was done. No one, not a property manager or vacasa, attempted to contact us at any time during our stay. Unfortunately this negative experience outweighs the positives and we would not return. We have always had wonderful service at all other homes, even if there was a problem with anything, and therefore know we can find something much better. As others have stated the house itself is very nice and spacious. The outdoor space was quiet and was comfortable to enjoy lake views.

Once Majestic

House was nice and big for our group of 8. Beautiful location on the lake. Based on the pics, however, we were expecting the atmosphere to be higher end. The appliances are very dated, TVs very small or nonexistent in main rooms (despite pics showing otherwise), minimal amenities and worn decor. The outdoor space is in need of upkeep and better furniture (rusted metal tables and chairs). Vacasa was very responsive to fixing a broken washing machine and a key issue. Thank you! Bring dish soap, dish detergent, paper towels, and laundry soap!

Tons of space, lots of fun

We loved all the space. We were three couples and two kids. Each family had its own floor and bathroom. Our grandsons loved all the bunkbed choices, the game room downstairs, and the huge bathtub in Grandma and Grandpa's master bedroom.

Beautiful classic lodge in Northern Wisconsin

The drive on a secluded road sets the scene for this beautiful and spacious lodge. You are immediately greeted with a large field stone fireplace, and beautiful open kitchen and dining table for preparing and sharing meals with family or friends.
