STAY AWAY-Charged 500 Euro for Unfounded Damage Two Weeks After Our Stay

We enjoyed our stay in Trier. It was difficult getting into the apartment. Finding the key was not easy. Once we located the key, we had some difficulty locating the elevator. Once we did, we discovered the elevator was out of service. We had to carry our luggage, which was a lot because we were on a two week holiday from the US up four flights of stairs, with no communication about this from the host. The apartment was nice and we enjoyed it. However, two weeks after we left the apartment in perfect condition, I was charged 500 euro for damages they claim we made to a small suction cup shower holder and a drying rack. The shower holder fell off on its own and we placed it gently in the corner. There was no damage to the drying rack. These are completely false charges against my family with absolutely no proof whatsoever. They also did this two weeks after we left, so these damages, if true, could have been done by another guest. I have stayed in many rentals over the years and have never had a single incident or security charge-we are good guests who always leave homes in excellent condition.

Not clean

When we arrived we struggled with finding the key to enter. The book in the apartment had exact description with pictures on how to check in. It would have been helpful to have this in an email. Upon entering the apartment we found that it had not been cleaned from the previous occupant. The beds looked slept on, there was trash in the kitchen and bathrooms, dirty laundry by the washer, and crumbs under the dining table. We spend several hours cleaning the place and washing the bedding and did not get to bed until 3:00pm. We tried to contact the host and VRBO with no answer.
