"I had just completed a four-night stay at the Scandic München Macherei and checked out earlier that morning. Unfortunately, my flight was canceled, and about five hours after leaving the hotel, I unexpectedly found myself needing a room for another night. Since I had just stayed there, I decided to return to the Scandic.
Upon arriving back at the hotel, I was surprised and extremely disappointed to be told that I would have to pay an additional early check-in fee. I had literally just checked out a few hours earlier, and the same staff members were still working and knew that I had been a guest for the previous four nights. Given the circumstances, I thought some basic flexibility and understanding would have been appropriate.
Instead, the staff were completely unwilling to accommodate me or make any exception. After already giving the hotel four nights of business and returning because of circumstances completely outside of my control, being asked to pay an additional fee simply to check in a little early felt ridiculous and unnecessarily rigid.
It’s particularly disappointing because the hotel itself is very nice, comfortable, and conveniently located. I had otherwise enjoyed my experience there. Unfortunately, this interaction really put a damper on my impression of the hotel. Good hospitality is about more than having a nice property, and a little understanding toward a returning guest in an unfortunate situation would have gone a very long way."
