Loved the mesmerizing flow of the tide washing in and out. Whole place like a picture postcard of Maine coastal life.
Highly recommend for relaxing and being close enough to Acadia.
Wonderful long weekend stay. Such a unique property in amazing location right on the water and easy walking distance from multiple great restaurants, walking/super short driving distance from Bar Harbor ferry, and easy driving distance from Schoodic peninsula trails, seaside rock scrambling, etc. Pre-stay communications were excellent and house access via key code super easy. We (4 adults, 1 teenager, 1 dog) loved the postcard views, comfy swivel chairs, and fire pit. Note that the upstairs bunk room plus bathroom is accessed by a steep staircase almost steep enough to be considered a ladder. But the stairs have excellent treads and the two only semi-fit 50 somethings plus 9 year old dog that slept up there ended up navigating them fine. TL;DR, we loved our stay and hope to return soon!
The owners of this property have worked hard to restore it since the 2024 storm that nearly totally destroyed it. The location of the cottage is perfect…within walking distance to several good restaurants (Treehouse Seaside Grill our favorite), a market across the street, and the ferry to Bar Harbor around the corner to name a few. Most everything you need for your stay is included. The view is lovely too from both inside and outside. Our only negative is that the downstairs bedroom really needs a new bed. I’m sure the owners will be working on replacing some pieces of furniture as they continue their renovations.Thank you for a relaxing stay in Winter Harbor!
The house is a slice of heaven. Waking up to the tide waters and sea life was amazing. Perfectly situated on the cove. The home is welcoming and well equipped. We hope to return for another fabulous vacation!

Price was good and the view is priceless!
It was such a cute home. Right on the water. We loved the fire pit. Such easy access to Schoodic Peninsula. We enjoyed the little town and the quiet side of Acadia. The store right across the street had all of the supplies we needed. We enjoyed the Wrinkled Pickle restaurant and the cute art and antique shops in town.
Staying at Winter Harbor was fun. Much quieter than Bar Harbor and still close enough to things. The house is very close to the quiet side of Acadia. The house was fun to stay in. Right on the water. Able to watch the tide move in and out and the boats in the bay. Kitchen was well stocked. Still some finishing touches to complete on the rebuild of the house, but such a cool history. Owner was very responsive. House was comfortable and kid’s loved the upstairs. Totally recommend staying here.
We wanted to spend a little time in Acadia National Park and found this Historic Winter Harbor Cabin. It was everything it was pictured to be. Sitting overlooking a beautiful bay we watched the tide role in and out and the birds by day and stars by night. Wonderful! The cabin had just the right rustic feel but was completely remodeled. Very clean and efficient. Really charming. Very near shops and restaurants - we walked to most places in town. We would highly recommend staying in this cabin and Larry, one of the owners, was very easy to contact with any questions. We would love to come back one day!
Our four night stay in Winter Harbor didn’t start great, but the home has great potential. There was a mixup between the owner and cleaner so when we arrived the home hadn’t been cleaned. It was bad. I contacted the owner and the cleaner arrived shortly after. The owner (Larry) was responsive and contacted me when the cleaners left. He was told “we did the best we could with the time we had.” I’m still not sure what that means since we didn’t give them a time limit.
The home has a wonderful history. A winter storm hit the Harbor in January and because of the damage, the owners completely restored the home. We enjoyed watching the tide come in and go out, and the wildlife was abundant. The neighborhood was quiet and safe. What a treasure Schoodic Peninsula is!

Good but could be great
The property is under construction, which is only disclosed after booking. The floors are unfinished, some items (undermount microwave) are visible but not yet installed and it feels like you’re living through a renovation, e.g. bathroom mirror was installed and the drywall has not been sanded. The location is great - quiet and away from the crowds. The size for two humans and two large dogs was good. The downstairs bedroom has a mattress that was purchased circa 1985 and it’s very springy, noisy, and uncomfortable. The linens and pillows are also in need of replacement (stains). The check-in process was unique. You are required to reach out to a local contact who will give you a code. This could be streamlined much like any other rental property check-in. He did answer the phone immediately, though, so that was nice. The view was fantastic and the building has local history. There is no longer a stove, which would have been nice to know since one is pictured in the listing and adds charm. I hope the owners can finish the renovation and give this place the love it deserves. So much potential and great location. Nearby restaurants were great.

Cute, historic cottage, but some issues
Our family of 6 stayed for 3 nights. We've rented many VRBOs. Our expectations are high, but reasonable, yet an honest review involves some criticism. To start with the pros, the house is in the quaint Winter Harbor, it felt safe, and is right across from a small grocery. We did the drive to Mt. Desert Island/Bar Harbor and enjoyed our time, but the slow pace on Henry's Cove was lovely, as was the easy access to the beautiful Schoodic Point area of Acadia. Also, the house is cute and historic (from 1860!) so it was cozy for our large family but ok because it was unique. However, the communication with management was a bit strained (had still not received the entry code about an hour before check in, instructions for the code/alarm were incorrect so had to figure that out, and we were told more washcloths were to be delivered and someone would contact us but never did). But the biggest issue is that, as of this authoring date at least, the exterior photos on VRBO are NOT representative. There was flooding in Jan 2024 and the house had to be rebuilt (as much as we respect the effort to do so, this was unwelcome news to us upon arrival). It now sits up on higher posts with stairs up to the front door (plus VERY steep stairs to the loft - guests with mobility issues/small children beware). Also, the water level is NOT as shown, even at high tide (maybe the storm's impact?) Regardless, the view is not as waterfront as pictured. It is a cute place, but we suggest more transparency.
Comfortable with an outstanding view of Winter Harbor. The living room is spacious and comfortable and there is a large, loft upstairs that has comfortable beds - a bunkbed and double bed. The stairs a re steep going to the loft, and might be something to consider if you have young kids or bad knees (we had neither). We really enjoyed our stay in the house and loved the area!

Great place on the water!
We rented this house for a relaxing and beautiful weekend. This place did not disappoint! Beautiful view with low or high tide. Overall great place for a family vacation by the water. The town is quiet and there are some great local restaurants and even a coffee shop up the road within walking distance.
Excellent place for summer vacation. Easy to travel around and nice restraint nearby for lobster and other sea food. Wish house had a couple backside light so we could enjoy night time tides of sea.
Property was exactly as described. Smooth transaction, no issues whatsoever. Highly recommended. We had a great stay!

Beautiful location with gorgeous views. Very historic and charming property. The park is just a few minutes away. The house is well equipped with everything you need. We loved using the grill and toasting marshmallows in the fire pit. Larry was very kind and helpful.

Winter Harbor, ME Cottage
Our stay was wonderful. For the second consecutive year, our family stayed at the cottage. From the first moment of excitement when you enter the cottage to see the outstanding view of Henry's Cove, to each night of our stay anticipating the next day in such a beautiful location, each of us had a great time! The house is perfectly situated in the the fishing village of Winter Harbor. Easy to walk to shops and restaurants, the grocery store is directly across the street. We visited Bar Harbor both by driving and taking the ferry which leaves from Bar Harbor. The house was clean and comfortable. The host Larry, is quick to respond if needed and easy to work with. We look foward to our next stay in the cottage!
